Markelle Fultz's Teammates Concerned With His Overall Well-Being

Nov 30, 2018 5:19 PM

Markelle Fultz will continue to see medical specialists about his right shoulder next week.

Fultz is searching for solutions that have included several rounds of examinations in recent days.

The Philadelphia 76ers will wait until those appointments are complete before they decide his next steps on a return to the team.

Fultz's teammates are increasingly concerned about his overall well-being beyond his struggles on the court.

Fultz has lost the ability to carry out and follow through on long jump shots, and there has been internal and external debate about how much of this perplexing circumstance is physical versus mental.

Markelle Fultz's Agent Denies Requesting Trade

Nov 23, 2018 9:51 AM

The agent for Markelle Fultz, Raymond Brothers, has denied requesting a trade on behalf of his client.

"I have given no indication to [general manager] Elton Brand or anyone else that Markelle would prefer to be traded," Brothers told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. "My focus is to get Markelle healthy. End of story."

Fultz is scheduled to see a specialist on his right shoulder.

The front office of the 76ers have been in talks with Brothers on potential next steps.

"It would be irresponsible and reckless for me to even comment on it. I won't until I learn more," said Brown.

Markelle Fultz To See Shoulder Specialist

Nov 20, 2018 5:07 PM

Markelle Fultz will see a shoulder specialist early next week at the direction of his agent Raymond Brothers.

Fultz will not participate in team practices or games until after he is seen by the specialist.

Brett Brown and general manager Elton Brand said they weren't aware of any issues with Fultz prior to Brand receiving a call from Brothers on Tuesday morning.

"There's nothing we saw medically that didn't allow him to play," Brand told reporters after the team practiced at its Camden, New Jersey, facility Tuesday afternoon. "He played last night. He played two days ago.

"Ever since Jimmy Butler came [last week] and [Fultz] wasn't starting, I thought he played pretty well. I was proud of him the way he bounced back from a lot of things."

Brett Brown Won't Commit To Markelle Fultz Or T.J. McConnell As Backup Point Guard

Nov 20, 2018 8:42 AM

Brett Brown benched Markelle Fultz in favor of T.J. McConnell in Monday's win by the 76ers over the Suns.

Brown wouldn't commit to either Fultz or McConnell as his backup point guard.

"I don't know," Brown said.

Fultz downplayed the situation after the game.

"Our relationship is more than teammates," Fultz said. "We both want to see each other do well, and we want to see the team win, so anytime one of us step on the court, we are probably rooting for each other more than most people. That's how it is.

"You definitely want to go out there and compete ... I'm a competitor. But, at the end of the day, coach made a decision to do that, so I have to live with it. My mindset is just, when I step on the court, go out there and play. But while T.J. is out there, I'm rooting for him.

"It's not like I'm sitting on the bench pouting or anything. I want to be out there, but I'm going to root for my teammates."

Jimmy Butler Calls Being With 76ers 'Night And Day' Difference

Nov 19, 2018 9:56 AM

Jimmy Butler is relieved to be with the Philadelphia 76ers following his trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

“Night and day,” Butler said of his new situation.

Butler's contract situation and an indifference toward Minnesota's roster is what led to his trade request.

“Ben [Simmons] sees the game steps ahead, and Joel [Embiid] is a monster inside. So I’m envisioning what we can be,” Butler said.

“We learned a lot from our series against the Celtics, and we felt we needed Jimmy,” owner Josh Harris told The Athletic. “Since last summer, we’ve felt we needed a third elite talent. You don’t get a chance to get this talent every day. Jimmy wants to win, and Joel and Ben want to win. That’s the bottom line.”

Players win championships,” Elton Brand said. “I kind of understand what Jerry (Krause) meant. But those players are out there playing. And now we have three stars and role players, which we are still looking to add to.”
