Sources Expect Bryan Colangelo To Lose Job With 76ers

May 31, 2018 8:19 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to soon conclude their investigation into social media allegations against Bryan Colangelo.

Some league sources expect Colangelo to lose his job as president of basketball operations.

A league source said Colangelo was visibly shaken when the report broke while he was attending a workout in Los Angeles.

Colangelo has missed predraft workouts on Wednesday and Thursday.

“The only way that he’ll get out of it is if he comes with evidence that somebody set him up,” said a league executive, speaking on condition of anonymity. “If it is out there where they can’t prove either way, I don’t think he’ll keep his job. And if there’s involvement with a family member, it doesn’t look like he has a chance either.”

The start of the NBA Finals could have played a factor in Philadelphia's timetable, according to sources. The league did not want the controversy to further distract from Game 1.

76ers Launch Investigation Into Bryan Colangelo's Twitter Use

May 30, 2018 11:11 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers have launched an independent investigation into the Twitter habits of Bryan Colangelo.

"An online media outlet filed a story linking multiple social media accounts to 76ers president of basketball operations Bryan Colangelo. The allegations are serious and we have commenced an independent investigation into the matter," the Sixers' statement said. "We will report the results of that investigation as soon as it is concluded."

Colangelo has denied Tweeting from the accounts in question.

"Like many of my colleagues in sports, I have used social media as a means to keep up with the news," the statement said. "While I have never posted anything whatsoever on social media, I have used the @Phila1234567 Twitter account referenced in this story to monitor our industry and other current events. This storyline is disturbing to me on many levels, as I am not familiar with any of the other accounts that have been brought to my attention, nor do I know who is behind them or what their motives may be in using them."

With Josh Harris leading the ownership group, the 76ers parted ways with Sam Hinkie and 2016 before hiring Colangelo.

Report Outlines Alleged Twitter Use Connected To Bryan Colangelo

May 30, 2018 8:04 AM

A report from The Ringer has outlined alleged Twitter use of Bryan Colangelo.

The story cites circumstantial evidence that paints a picture of the NBA front-office veteran using multiple anonymous Twitter accounts to support his work in Philadelphia while also to take shots at some of his team's players, including Joel Embiid and Markelle Fultz, as well as former Sixers Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel.

Embiid told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that Colangelo called him Tuesday night to deny the tweets were from him.

"I talked to him and he said that he didn't say that," Embiid said. "He called me just to deny the story. Gotta believe him until proven otherwise. If true, though, that would be really bad."

In a statement first given to The Ringer on Tuesday, Colangelo explained his use of one of the accounts, while denying his involvement with four others.

The Ringer reported that it was anonymously tipped off by the source to the Twitter activity in February and began researching from there.
