Two Sixers Fans Banned For 12 Months For Gestures, Obscenities Towards Isaiah Thomas

Dec 22, 2019 3:17 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers banned two fans who made obscene gestures and yelled obscenities towards Isaiah Thomas, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The fans were banned from the Wells Fargo Center for 12 months.

The season-ticket holder who transferred his seats to the 2 fans also had his tickets also revoked.

Thomas was ejected for confronting the fans in the stands late in the 4th quarter of the Wizards' 125-108 road loss to the Sixers.

“When I missed the first free throw and made the second, I’m running back and the fan has both of his middle fingers up and said, ‘F--- you, b----!’ three times. So then the timeout goes and I go in the stands to confront him. I say, ‘Don’t be disrespectful.’ I’m a man before anything and ‘be a fan.’ And his response was, ‘I’m sorry. I just wanted a Frosty,'" recounted Thomas of the incident.

Joel Embiid After Loss To Mavs: Sixers Are 'Playing Scared' Against Zone Defenses

Dec 21, 2019 12:19 PM

Joel Embiid criticized the Philadelphia 76ers' mentality after their 117-98 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at home, saying they are scared to shoot against zone defenses.

"I feel like, especially tonight, we were playing scared. Basketball is easy. You just shoot it, pass it, move it. If you don't got a shot just pass it. ... I felt like tonight we had a few open looks, [and] you just got to shoot it," said Embiid following the game.

The Mavs played a zone defense on 35 possessions against the Sixers on Friday night. The Heat played zone on 38 possessions on Wednesday, the most for any team on the season.

Brett Brown admitted that zone defenses are affecting his team's mentality.

"I think that the influence that our inability lately, to, like, be put on our back heels against the zone has crept into our defense, our psyche, our spirit. And I can't stand it. This is not who we are. It's not who we are. ... I love coaching these guys, because I respect them. And I feel like our competitive spirit has taken a dent because of our inability to score, and I think that any time you get into a mood swing that affects your defense because your offense is doing something, it needs to be addressed."

Trey Burke's Father Makes Plea On Instagram For 76ers To Trade His Son

Dec 17, 2019 4:43 PM

The father of Trey Burke has publicly lobbied for his son to be traded by the Philadelphia 76ers due to a lack of playing time.

The Instagram post by Benjie Burke read: “Man get my dude off this team. Killing him. They will not get out the east without bench scoring. Free TB23 please.”

The team provided the following statement on behalf of Burke.

“Earlier today, I was made aware of my dad’s social media post,” the statement read. “While I appreciate the support he’s shown throughout my career, his comments don’t reflect how I feel and we’ve addressed that. My focus is doing whatever I can to help this team win a championship. I appreciate the support this organization, the fans and city of Philadelphia have shown me.”

Burke has only played in 10 of Philadelphia' 28 games and is averaging 6.9 points, 3.1 assists, 1.5 rebounds, and 15.8 minutes.

Brett Brown Wants Ben Simmons To Shoot 'A 3-Point Shot A Game, Minimum'

Dec 8, 2019 12:24 PM

Brett Brown said he wants Ben Simmons to shoot at least one 3-point shot per game following the Philadelphia 76ers' 141-91 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Simmons, who had a career-high 34 points, hit his second 3-pointer of his career during the game.

"I want a 3-point shot a game, minimum. ... The mentality that he has where he's turning corners and taking that long step, that gather step, and bringing his shoulders to the rim and trying to dunk or finish tight, will equal higher efficiency, or getting fouled. That's the world that interests me the most. Those two things," said Brown following the game.

Brown added that a 3-pointer will liberate both Simmons' and the 76ers' game.

"When I put on my coaching hat and I'm looking at a 23-year-old young man trying to grow his game, it's completely, first, in his wheelhouse. And, secondly, he will be liberated. His world will open up. And I think, in many ways, so will ours."

Jimmy Butler Ghosted Rockets During 2019 Free Agency

Dec 5, 2019 10:00 PM

The Houston Rockets pursued Jimmy Butler during the 2019 free agency period after they offered multiple draft picks to the Minnesota Timberwolves for him before his trade to the Philadelphia 76ers.

"Look, the Houston Rockets wanted to pay Jimmy Butler the four-year max and he ghosted them," said Tim MacMahon on the Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective Podcast. "They thought they had them and he left them hanging."

"They had trades lined up, I don't know the teams (or) the destinations, but they had trades lined up for (Clint) Capela and (Eric) Gordon. They were ready to pay Jimmy Butler. They really liked their chances and then suddenly, Jimmy had other thoughts."

Butler ultimately orchestrated a sign-and-trade to the Miami Heat. Houston kept Capela and Gordon while trading Chris Paul for Russell Westbrook.
