James Harden After Game 6 Win: 'We Weren't Going Back To Philly For A Game 7'

Apr 29, 2022 12:53 AM

The Philadelphia 76ers beat the Toronto Raptors 132-97 in Game 6 to close out the series 4-2 on Thursday night.

"We weren't going back to Philly for a Game 7," said James Harden, who finished the game with 22 points and 15 assists.

The Sixers were lead by Joel Embiid's 33 points and 10 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey, who struggled in Games 4 and 5, added 25 points and 8 assists.

The Sixers took charge of the game in the third quarter, outscoring the Raptors 37-17. The run included Philadelphia scoring 17 points in a row.

Harden credited his aggressiveness for his performance.

"I wanted to come out and be aggressive. Not just scoring basketball, but making the right plays, and getting into the paint. I knew good things would happen," said Harden.

The Sixers begin their series against the Heat on Monday.

Doc Rivers: Wish Y'All Would Tell Whole Story With 3-1 Collapses

Apr 27, 2022 3:47 PM

With the Philadelphia 76ers heading into Game 6 on Thursday against the Toronto Raptors despite taking a 3-0 lead, Doc Rivers defended his record of blowing three separate 3-1 series leads.

"Well, it's easy to use me as an example," Rivers said after the team finished practice. "But I wish y'all would tell the whole story with me. All right?

"My Orlando team [in 2003] was the eighth seed. No one gives me credit for getting up against the [Detroit] Pistons, who won the title. That was an eighth seed. I want you to go back and look at that roster. I dare you to go back and look at that roster. And you would say, 'What a hell of a coaching job.' Really.

"I mean, the Clipper team [in 2015] that we lost 3-1, Chris Paul didn't play the first two games, and was playing on one leg, and we didn't have home court. And then the last one [when the Clippers lost to the Denver Nuggets in 2020], to me, is the one we blew. That's the one I took. We blew that. And that was in the bubble. And anything can happen in the bubble. There's no home court. Game 7 would have been in LA.

"But, it just happens. So I would say with me, some of them is ... I gotta do better always. I always take my own responsibility. And then some of it is, circumstances happen. This one, let's win it, and we don't have to talk about it."

MRI Confirms Torn Ligament In Joel Embiid's Right Thumb

Apr 24, 2022 2:33 PM

Joel Embiid is playing through a sore right thumb, after an injury suffered late in Game 3 of the Philadelphia 76ers first round series against the Toronto Raptors. Now, an MRI has confirmed Embiid has a torn ligament in that thumb on his shooting hand.

Sixers coach Doc Rivers said that nothing will change with Embiid's availability or treatment. He'll continue to play through the injury for the duration of Philadelphia's playoff run. Following the season, the All-Star center will undergo surgery for the injury, per additional reporting.

Embiid was noticeably bothered by the injury at times in his team's Game 4 loss, as the Raptors extended the series for at least one more game. The MVP candidate shot just 7-of-16 and had five turnovers. He also grabbed only eight rebounds and his defensive impact was lessened.

Joel Embiid Experiencing 'Significant Pain' In Right Thumb, Expected To Play In Game 4

Apr 23, 2022 1:48 AM

Joel Embiid is experiencing "significant pain" in his right thumb, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

Embiid, who practiced on Friday and is expected to play in Game 4 against the Raptors, may get an MRI in the future to determine if there is ligament damage.

Embiid reportedly wore a protective wrap on his right thumb during Friday's practice.

"He's good. We did a lot of stuff ... we just don't want anybody to hit his arms and hands and all that. But he's fine," said Doc Rivers following the practice.

The Sixers lead the series 3-0.

Joel Embiid Told Nick Nurse To Stop Complaining About Calls

Apr 19, 2022 9:06 AM

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid and Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse were seen having a conversation as Game 2 of their first round series came to an end. When asked what they were discussing, Embiid said he told Nurse to stop complaining about the officials.

"He's a great coach. Obviously, he's been able to accomplish (a lot) and always been a big fan," Embiid said. "But, I told him, respectfully, I told him to stop b----ing about calls."

Prior to the Raptors Game 2 loss, Nurse had campaigned for the referees to look closer at how Embiid was playing. In Game 1, Nurse felt Embiid got away with several elbows to Toronto players.

Things went the other way as the Sixers took a 2-0 series lead. Embiid ended up shooting 12-of-14 from the free throw line, compared to the Raptors going 10-of-12 combined as a team.

Philadelphia 76ers vs Toronto Raptors Odds, NBA Playoff Picks & Predictions

Apr 15, 2022 9:20 AM

Joel Embiid won the NBA scoring title, the first center since Shaquille O’Neal to accomplish that feat. Now he wants to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to postseason success, an elusive feat. Philly hasn’t even made the Eastern Conference Finals in 21 years.

The fourth-seeded Sixers host the No. 5 Toronto Raptors in the best-of-7 series starting on Saturday. Toronto got the better of Philadelphia during the regular season, though James Harden wasn’t on the team for one of those games and Joel Embiid didn’t play in another.

Ahead of Game 1, Bookies.com breaks down the series and makes our NBA picks to back on betting apps.

76ers vs Raptors Betting Tips

Magic Number 5: Toronto bested Philadelphia in three of the four matchups this season, but all four were close. Three of those games were decided by exactly five points, the other by six. The 76ers are -4.5 for Game 1, with online sportsbooks daring bettors to back the road Raptors.

Homecourt Question: Of the 14 teams that advanced to the playoffs without the play-in tournament, the 76ers had the worst against-the-spread mark at home, just 17-24 (41.5%). That is good news for a Raptors team that was 25-15-1 ATS on the road (62.5%) – tied for the best ATS mark in the league.

Pascal Power: Embiid is considered an NBA MVP contender, but Toronto’s Pascal Siakam has mostly outplayed him this season. In three matchups this year, Siakam is averaging 30.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 8.3 assists. Embiid is at 29.0, 11.3 and 2.7.

76ers vs Raptors Series Predictions

The No. 4 Sixers have the homecourt advantage and the edge according to sports betting apps who have installed them as -180 favorites to advance to the second round, Toronto is +150.

There is reason to find value in the Raptors’ NBA odds. They’ve generally outperformed expectations on the road compared to the Sixers at home, James Harden’s playoff stats are lower than his regular season numbers and Siakam has, at worst, negated the power of Embiid.

This is a tougher series to predict than some may believe. That’s why we will steer clear of the series price, but look at the series correct score odds.

Our Pick: Root for a Game 7. You can get Philly in seven games at +320 and Raptors in seven at +600.

76ers vs Raptors Schedule
