The Phoenix Suns were long tied to a possible run at James Harden next offseason had he become a restricted free agent and the team also pursued a trade.
"We were engaged in discussions on numerous occasions," Suns President of Basketball Operations Lon Babby said. "We most recently met in person when we played them (in Tulsa, Okla., on Oct. 19). At the end of the day, there wasn't a deal that was workable for both sides."
The Suns had cap space, picks and players on good contracts, but the Oklahoma City Thunder preferred the package from the Rockets.
Babby said no proposal "got a whole lot of life."
The Phoenix Suns have exercised the team’s 2013-14 option on the contract of forward Markieff Morris.
Originally the 13th overall pick (first round) of the 2011 NBA Draft by the Suns, last season Morris had the best statistical campaign by a Sun since Amar’e Stoudemire in 2002-03. The 6-10, 245-pound Morris became just the seventh Sun in franchise history selected to play in the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend. He averaged 7.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.67 blocks and 0.65 steals in 19.5 minutes in 63 games (seven starts) last season, one of just six NBA rookies to average at least seven points and four boards a season ago.
The Phoenix Suns have waived forward Ike Diogu and forward/center Solomon Jones.
The Suns’ roster now stands at 15.
The Phoenix Suns, Orlando Magic and Dallas Mavericks will add the STATS, LLC camera-tracking system this season, according to a source.
There will be 13 NBA teams with the system, with the Raptors, Thunder, Spurs, Knicks, Celtics, Rockets, Bucks, Wizards and Wolves already having them.
