Suns Ready To Begin Head Coach Search

Mar 23, 2018 9:44 AM

The Phoenix Suns are beginning to search for a new head coach with a few weeks remaining in the regular season.

Jay Triano has been serving as interim head coach and will be considered for the permanent job. Triano replaced Earl Watson after three games this season.

The Suns want to start early on their search as there is expected to be several openings in the offseason.

"This is going to be a competitive marketplace," Ryan McDonough told ESPN. "There are three of us (Phoenix, Milwaukee and Memphis) with interim coaches in place, and we want to be able to hit the ground running. We don't want to have to wait until the end of the regular season for candidates who aren't with teams now. At the end of the regular season, we'll be able to talk with coaches on non-playoff teams and we'll need to work with playoff teams on what their approach will be on contacting (assistant) coaches still in the postseason."

Robert Sarver Believes Suns Can 'Turn The Corner' This Offseason

Mar 7, 2018 11:46 AM

Robert Sarver had an extensive interview with the Arizona Republic discussing the Suns' season and their plans for the offseason as they rebuild.

"I think a lot of this year was about development of some of our younger players," said Sarver. "I think that’s been a lot of our focus. I think you’ve seen some of them progress during the season, some more than others. We’re going to add another really good young player. I think we’re in a position where we can turn the corner, but if we don’t execute properly in terms of free agency and we don’t develop the players and we don’t execute in terms of our draft, then it’s going to be another tough year. So I think it’s a year of opportunity, but a year for us to step up and make some good decisions."

Sarver was asked if the upcoming offseason will be especially critical for the Suns.

"I think so. Our younger players need confidence," said Sarver. "I think there’s a fine line between coming in a game feeling confident you can win and not feeling confident you can win. I think maybe we can add a piece or two next season with some leadership and some experience and some winning and some grit that can help turn that confidence level with some of our younger players. So this offseason is going to be about adding some of that confidence and leadership, and at the same time to get some of our younger players to take a meaningful step forward. I think you’ve seen that a little bit this year. Obviously, Devin (Booker) has shown he’s capable of playing at an All-Star level and can be one of the pillars of the franchise moving forward. The second half of this season for Josh (Jackson) has shown what we saw when we drafted him. At times you’ve seen Marquese (Chriss) and Dragan (Bender) show what they can do, but the two of them haven’t been consistent enough."

Suns Sign Shaquille Harrison To 2nd 10-Day Contract

Mar 3, 2018 1:13 PM

The Phoenix Suns have signed guard Shaquille Harrison to a second 10-day contract after initially signing him on February 21.

Harrison has appeared in five games with the Suns, the first five games of his NBA career, totaling nine points, 10 rebounds, eight steals and seven assists in 43 minutes. In Wednesday’s win at Memphis, Harrison recorded seven points, five rebounds, four steals, two assists and a block. Harrison also had four steals in his NBA debut on February 23 against the LA Clippers; he and Alvan Adams are the only players in Suns history to record multiple performances of at least four steals through four career games.

A 6-4, 190-pound guard, Harrison was originally called up from the Northern Arizona Suns of the NBA G League.
