Jamaal Magloire stood after practice, ice bags on his left hand and both knees, and pondered the question.
Are you comfortable with your role on the Trail Blazers?
"That's a good question," he said.
Then he paused.
After all, Magloire is a veteran center, a one-time All-Star who is coming off the bench at 28, an age when a player should be in his prime. But Magloire, who came to the Blazers in an off-season trade with Milwaukee, also is a key part of the Blazers' second team. This was a delicate answer.
He continued: "I know I can play in this league, and I've shown over the last seven years of my career that I can play in this league. I know in my heart that I can start. I've shown consistency both on the offensive and defensive ends. But I've just got to deal with whatever coach gives me."
What coach Nate McMillan has given him is an average of 18 minutes per game, during which he has averaged 5.6 points and 5.4 rebounds. Magloire, who played in the 2004 All-Star Game when he was with New Orleans, acknowledges the season has been a test of patience.
