Miles Present At Bar Fight In Portland

Oct 24, 2007 12:04 PM

Portland police detectives are investigating a report of a fight over the weekend at a bar where Trail Blazer Darius Miles was present.

Police said there was "some type of disturbance" Saturday night at the City Sportsbar and Restaurant, 424 S.W. Fourth Ave. On Sunday, police got a call from a man who had gone to an area hospital for treatment of a broken limb. Elijah L. Warren told authorities he was injured during the fight.

Portland Police Bureau spokesman Sgt. Brian Schmautz would not disclose the name of the alleged attacker, saying it could compromise the police investigation. He said a number of people took part in the disturbance.

"The victim... says Darius Miles was definitely there," Schmautz said.

Tim Pearce, owner of the restaurant, said he was not at the bar during the altercation but he said he's spoken with his management staff. He said Miles was in the establishment at the time but did not take part in the scuffle.

Allen Still Believes In Oden

Oct 23, 2007 3:32 PM

The Blazers' owner was recently asked if he has any regrets about the team's decision to draft Greg Oden instead of Kevin Durant.

"I don?t think you can fault the decision-making process," said Allen.  "In an ideal world, a new player comes in and is part of your team, and it?s upward and onward. That?s not how it?s been with Greg; but before the draft, we checked out his knees, back, wrist, everything. And particularly his knees ? they were perfect."

"We concluded that for our team, where we wanted to go, and with Greg?s great upside, he was the right pick. I still feel that way. I saw Greg after the first preseason game and told him, 'It must have been killing you not to be out there playing.' He said, ?Man, I wish I could have been out there.? He?s such a nice kid, and he?ll be a great player.

Blazers Tell Frye To Ignore Trade Rumors

Oct 21, 2007 6:22 PM

Blazers' general manager Kevin Pritchard sought out forward Channing Frye to address a published rumor about the Blazers trying to trade Frye for Chicago Bulls' forward Tyrus Thomas.

"He told me it wasn't true," Frye said of a column last week in the New York Post. "I appreciated it, but I think any general manager with the type of relationship he has with us would come up and say, 'Hey, this is not true,' or, 'This is true.' But I think I can say that I'm not going anywhere for a while."

Pritchard said he came to the arena knowing he wanted to talk to Frye.

"I just want to communicate with our guys; sometimes these things get fabricated," Pritchard said. "This is a tough business because you can be traded, but when it's not substantiated, I'm going to let the guys know."

Report: Blazers' Roy Injures Heel, Could Miss Preseason

Oct 4, 2007 6:01 PM

Brandon Roy, the reigning rookie of the year, who missed 20 of the Portland Trail Blazers' first 25 games last season with a foot injury, hurt his left heel in practice Tuesday and could miss all eight preseason games, The Oregonian reported on its Web site Thursday.

Coach Nate McMillan informed Roy of the plan to bench him Tuesday so he would be ready for the Blazers' season opener Oct. 30 at San Antonio.

Roy told The Oregonian that he felt a sharp pain in his heel as he was finishing a fast-break layup during the Blazers' first practice. He left practice and had an MRI, which showed no major problems but indicated an irritation caused by the talus bone near the heel.
