Randolph Done For Season After Hand Surgery

Mar 31, 2007 12:06 AM

Zach Randolph of the Portland TrailBlazers had surgery on his right hand Friday and will miss the final 10 games of the season.

Randolph hurt his hand during a 94-93 loss at Minnesota last Sunday. The injury was not apparent in Thursday night's 96-92 home loss to Memphis, when Randolph scored a career-high 43 points and tied a season high with 17 rebounds while playing with his hand taped.

The surgery Friday removed bone fragments and repaired ligaments. Randolph will be in a cast for about five weeks, the team announced.

Blazers coach Nate McMillan said doctors in Seattle informed Roy -- who leads all rookies in scoring (16.3 points) and assists (4.0) -- that the child would likely be born Monday night.

"When he got the information from the doctors, he decided to go back -- which is the right thing to do," McMillan said.

NBA Admonishes Arenas For Making Courtside Bets With Fans

Mar 25, 2007 5:20 PM

Gilbert Arenas was admonished by the NBA for making $10 bets with fans during the Wizards' loss at Portland on Wednesday.

"We spoke to Gilbert and explained the issue to him," NBA spokesman John Acunto said Sunday. "And he assured us he wouldn't do anything like this again."

Arenas made the bets as he bantered with fans throughout the Wizards' loss. He was booed during pregame introductions and whenever he touched the ball because he had promised to score 50 points against the Trail Blazers.

ROY Race To Come Down Between Bargnani And Roy?

Mar 20, 2007 5:34 PM

The 2006-2007 Rookie of the Year award will likely come down to Andrea Bargnani and Brandon Roy.  Juan Dixon has played with both players.

"It's a close race. Since I've been here, Andrea has been a big reason why we've played well a lot of the time. He stretches the floor at the 4 (power forward) and 5 (centre) position, and teams have trouble matching up with him," said Dixon. "If I was one of the voters, it would be hard. You could throw it up in the air. Both of those guys have been very solid."
