Camby Wouldn't Oppose Trade To Knicks

Dec 31, 2010 9:39 AM

Marcus Camby wants to remain in Portland, but if the team does trade him he would prefer to be dealt to a contending team.

A source says that the veteran will contemplate retirement if moved to a rebuilding club.

The Knicks, however, are one team that Camby would approve.

Blazers, Roy Consider Ending His Season

Dec 31, 2010 9:37 AM

The Trail Blazers continue to discuss the possibility of shutting down Brandon Roy for the remainder of the season, two sources told Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

Portland issued a press release on Thursday announcing that Roy would be out indefinitely.

He has missed the team's last seven games and their .500 record has come into play with the decision.

Roy said Thursday that surgery was under consideration and confirmed that sitting out the rest of the season was a possibility.

"It would not surprise me to see him try to play again," one of the sources familiar with the team's strategy said.

"It would not surprise me to see him set a date when he wants to try to play. And it would not surprise me if he doesn't play again this season. ... At this point, anything is a possibility. The doctors and Brandon are ultimately going to make that decision."

Roy Sidelined Indefinitely

Dec 31, 2010 1:29 AM

Portland guard Brandon Roy will be sidelined indefinitely with sore knees, it was announced today by General Manager Rich Cho.

“Unfortunately, Brandon Roy’s condition has not significantly improved and we’ve decided to hold him out indefinitely,” said Cho. “In the short term, we’re going to proceed with an extended period of rest. Beyond that, we’re looking at all available treatment options to help better determine a course of action.”

Roy, 26, has missed nine games this season (three games from Nov. 16-20 and the last six games beginning on Dec. 17) with a sore left knee.

Camby Wants To Remain With Blazers

Dec 29, 2010 8:14 AM

Marcus Camby was unhappy to hear his name come up in trade rumors last week.

Chris Broussard of ESPN.com's True Hoop writes that Camby would be unhappy with a trade to Charlotte, a rumored destination last week, or any other non-contending team.

"If he was traded to Charlotte, he would think about retiring," a source said. "He's made plenty of money. He'd rather play, but he's at the point in his career where he doesn't want to get bounced around from team to team. If he's traded, it would have to be to a contender."

He signed a two-year extension with Portland this past spring and isn't even interested in a trade to an elite team.

Camby wouldn't be against a trade to the Rockets as he keeps an offseason home in Houston.

Portland Unlikely To Use Oden Exception

Dec 28, 2010 7:48 AM

The Trail Blazers are unlikely to use the disabled player exception they were awarded because of center Greg Oden's season-ending injury.

"We've explored a number of opportunities," general manager Rich Cho said. "But at this point it doesn't seem likely we'll use the exception before the deadline expires."

Earlier this month, the NBA granted the Blazers a disabled player exception worth $3.38 million. It expires on Thursday.

Nets Hope To Sell Carmelo On Future By Landing Miller

Dec 24, 2010 3:18 PM

The Nets are hoping to sell Carmelo Anthony on their future by also acquiring Andre Miller, one of his former teammates.

New Jersey has continued talks with Portland and Denver about the possibility of adding Miller in a multi-team trade that would land them Anthony, according to a league source.

Anthony and Miller were teammates with the Nuggets from 2003-06 and played well together.

While Anthony would like the idea of playing with Miller, sources indicate that New Jersey would have to acquire another quality player for him to serious consider signing a contract extension.

Under one scenario, Denver would receive Derrick Favors, Troy Murphy and two first-round picks. In another, Portland would receive Devin Harris from New Jersey.

Bobcats, Blazers Discuss Wallace Trade

Dec 23, 2010 7:11 PM

The Bobcats and Portland have discussed a trade that would send Gerald Wallace to the Blazers with center DeSagana Diop and point guard D.J. Augustin in exchange for center Marcus Camby and point guard Andre Miller.

"We're always monitoring how to improve our basketball team, and that hasn't stopped," Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins said in a conference call on Wednesday when asked about any potential trades. "We owe it to our community, our fan base, to try and improve. Part of the reason for this transaction (with Brown) is we haven't given up on the season and we want to try to get back into it, try to get back into the hunt.

"You have to think that we can get this team back on track with our team. Am I being naive? Maybe, but I firmly believe that this team is going to have an opportunity to get back on track."

Roy To Miss Portland's Three-Game Road Trip

Dec 22, 2010 8:20 AM

Brandon Roy won't travel with the Blazers on their upcoming three-game road trip, team president Larry Miller announced on Tuesday.

The trip begins at Golden State on Christmas Day and ends in Denver on Dec. 28.

Roy has already missed Portland's last three games because of his troublesome left knee. He was sidelined in mid-November for a three-game stretch with the same injury.

He will be re-evaluated later this week.
