Kings Sign Terrence Williams For Remainder Of Season

Mar 31, 2012 12:38 PM

Terrence Williams has signed with the Kings for the remainder of the season.

Williams had been on a 10-day contract with the team.

Keith Smart spoke about what Williams has been giving Sacramento.

"The ability to rebound as a guard, the ability to defend as a guard, his ability to be a playmaker," said Smart. "He sees the floor very well. That pass he floated over to Jason Thompson on the break, that's a tough pass for a guy to make to get it over the top of the runner, the defender. Then to pass it soft enough for him to be able to catch it? That's a type of pass that only certain people can make and this young man can do that. So he gives me that playmaking ability."

Duncan Impressed With Development Of Cousins

Mar 29, 2012 12:45 PM

DeMarcus Cousins had a double-double in his fourth consecutive game in Sacramento's 117-112 loss to the Spurs on Wednesday.

Cousins had 25 points and 11 rebounds while drawing praise from Tim Duncan.

"He's getting better and better," said Duncan. "Every time we play them he's getting better. He's getting more comfortable with his role. He's expanded his game and he always plays hard, so he's getting better."

Cousins also spoke of how he has looked to Duncan as a model.

"He's an incredible player," Cousins said of Duncan. "He's definitely a player I look up to in this league, just his all-around game, his composure, his leadership, all that. I was definitely taking notes tonight while trying to contain him."

Greene Running Out Of Time To Prove Value To Kings

Mar 26, 2012 10:50 AM

Donte Greene will be a restricted free agent this summer, meaning he is running out of games to prove his worth to the Kings.

Greene wants to keep things simple during those final 18 games.

"Just play, really," he said. "Go out and work hard before the games or in practice time and just try to be ready. It's a contract year for me; it's a big last (18) games of the season so (I'll) just try to work hard."

Greene has shown flashes of becoming a key contributor, but the Kings want him to find more consistency.

"I shared with him that 'You've got to get to the point, with your size, (playoff) contenders are knocking down our door saying give us this guy; that's where your game has to grow to,' " Keith Smart said.

Greene has improved defensively this season, an area of his game that can help prolong his NBA career.

"Donté is an underrated defender in this league," said Chuck Hayes. "And it's unfortunate he's not been able to get the credibility he deserves. And to be honest, I didn't know he was this good of a defender when I was in Houston. Being his teammate, this guy really knows his opponent."

Jason Thompson Continues To Emerge For Kings

Mar 21, 2012 11:10 AM

The Kings and Jason Thompson were unable to agree to a contract extension before the January 25th deadline, which will allow him to become a restricted free agent this summer.

"That was on my mind, but it wasn't on my mind," he said. "It was just about playing consistently."

Thompson has played his way into becoming someone the Kings are hoping to keep. The team's decision to waive J.J. Hickson on Monday spoke to that commitment.

"At some point, if you go back to the beginning of the season, we were going to have to make a decision on both of those players in regards to a qualifying offer or not to give them a qualifying offer," Kings basketball president Geoff Petrie said.

"We felt we were going to qualify Jason, and his play continues to be in the home improvement aisle."

Smart Wants Evans To Become Sacramento's Best Defensive Player

Mar 18, 2012 10:31 PM

Keith Smart has challenged Tyeke Evans to become stronger defensively as part of the third-year player’s transition from point guard to small forward.

"I'm looking at Tyreke as a rookie in this role," Smart said. "I told him, 'You are still going to handle the ball and initiate plays. You will still have a chance to drive and to shoot. The only thing that will change is that you are out there with a point guard (Isaiah Thomas). And also, you have to be our best defensive player.' "

For his part, Evans doesn’t sound like a man who has been too happy with his performance this season.

"I'm trying to figure it out," said Evans, who is shooting 42 percent from the floor. "I don't know if I like it (the three spot). I am so used to having the ball in my hands. But I want to be out there playing, so I'm working on it. I'm working on my shot, too."
