Trade Talks Between Rockets, Kings Intensify

Jun 28, 2012 4:42 PM

The Kings and Rockets have intensified their trade discussions centered around the No. 5 pick, according to sources.

Sacramento wants to wait to see if Thomas Robinson is on the board before a deal is consummated.

Houston is offering Kyle Lowry and multiple picks as they own the 12th, 16th and 18th selections.

The Rockets want to trade Andre Drummond, though it is unclear if they would be selecting him for themselves or in pursuit of Dwight Howard.

Jun 28, 2012 10:02 AM

The Kings continue to discuss a deal with the Rockets involving the fifth overall pick, according to sources.

Sacramento doesn't have a strong sentiment towards any player at this slot and sources believes Geoff Petrie is leaning toward selecting Andre Drummond over Harrison Barnes if the pick is retained.

Houston's latest offer of Kyle Lowry and the No. 16 pick was rejected by the Kings.

Yahoo's Marc J. Spears reports the Kings won't trade away the fifth pick until they are on the clock. According to Spears, Sacramento would like to see Robinson fall to them.

Rockets Attempting To Acquire Top-10 Picks

Jun 25, 2012 10:09 AM

The Rockets have been discussing moving up in the draft with the Kings at No. 5 and Raptors at No. 8, according to sources.

Houston has made both the No. 14 and No. 16 selections available, but the key to any trade could be Kyle Lowry.

Sources say the Rockets are most fond of Andre Drummond.

One rival GM believes the Rockets are attempting to acquire two top-10 picks with the intention of offering them to the Magic for Dwight Howard. The Rockets are one team willing to trade for Howard without an assurance on an extension.

Kings See Drummond As Seamless Fit Next To Cousins

Jun 9, 2012 9:58 AM

Andre Drummond met with the Kings at the NBA draft combine, where team officials told him he would mesh well with DeMarcus Cousins.

"They told me we both could be interchangeable," Drummond said. "We both can do similar things, and if it worked out, we'd have a good chemistry together."

Drummond averaged 7.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocked shots during his freshman season at Connecticut.

"I'm going to work my tail off on defense, grab a lot of rebounds, block some shots and put some points on the board," Drummond said. "It's going to be tough. I'm going to be making a big transition from college to the NBA. … I'm not saying I'm going to go out there and drop 30 and 15 every game. I'm saying I'm going to go out there and do the best I can."

Cousins Aiming To Make Olympic Team

Jun 5, 2012 10:20 AM

DeMarcus Cousins isn't satisfied with being part of the select team that will train against the U.S. Olympic team.

"I'm not going there (Las Vegas) just to practice," Cousins said. "I can make that team."

Cousins is scheduled to train against Team USA during its training camp from July 6-12.

"My main focus is to come back a better leader," Cousins said. "Learning from the elite guys in this league, who are already leaders on their team, just picking up habits from them … "

Smart Sees Kings Developing Offensive Identity Similar To Spurs

Jun 2, 2012 12:07 PM

Keith Smart played for Gregg Popovich and has applied some of his techniques to the way he coaches.

"The NBA is a league that copies," Smart said this week, "and teams look at trends.

"The trend right now suggests the game is coming back to a time where the floor is open, teams have stretch fours (power forwards who can shoot), and point guards who can make plays for themselves and their teammates. When you look at the Spurs, how many times do you see a guy dribble, then pass? They just pass. They also get into their offense so fast, it allows for more time to move the ball to the open player."

Smart helped the Kings transition to a team that plays faster on offense and dribbles less.

Agents Placing Greater Importance On Team Instead Of Draft Slot

Jun 1, 2012 11:16 AM

Agents are becoming more concerned with fit and less focused on draft slot. The importance for their clients to be drafted as high as possible is due to the rookie scale contract that is set on draft order.

NBA general managers perceive the Cavaliers, Wizards, Blazers and Warriors as preferable landing spots at the top of the draft, while the Bobcats and Kings are decided less so.

Chad Ford speculates that Charlotte and Sacramento could have difficulty in convincing players to workout for them at their own facility.
