Cavs Asked George Hill To Accept Buyout For 18-19 If LeBron James Leaves

Jan 30, 2018 4:45 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers have interest in trading for George Hill but they want protection against his contract if LeBron James leaves in the offseason.

Hill is guaranteed $19 million next season and $1 millon out of $18 million the following season.

The Cavaliers had held talks with the Kings involving Iman Shumpert and Channing Frye.

"George Hill, they didn’t want to buy him out this year," said Brian Windhorst. "What they wanted to do was protect themselves in the event that, if LeBron James left, whether George Hill would be willing to take a buyout on the $20 million he’s owed on his contract after this season."

Kings To Sit At Least Two Veterans Per Game To Develop Younger Players

Jan 16, 2018 12:21 PM

The Sacramento Kings will sit at least two of their veterans for the remainder of the season as they begin to emphasize the development of their younger players. That list of veterans includes George Hill, Kosta Koufos, Garrett Temple, Vince Carter and Zach Randolph.

Dave Joerger said as many as three veterans could sit in some games.

“It’s not an easy conversation,” Joerger said. “They’re very professional, they’re competitive. All of them are rotation players on a playoff team. So to ask those guys to step aside at different times is not enjoyable for me. They handled it well, they’ve been pros.”

The Kings are prioritizing their long-term plans.

“I’m excited to see where De’Aaron Fox is 24 months from now,” Joerger said. “You get in the middle of his third season and you just keep plugging away. Sometimes fans just want to hear the short view. That’s the long view and that’s what we’re trying to do by doing this.”

George Hill: First Months With Kings 'A Little More Difficult Than I Anticipated'

Jan 4, 2018 2:55 PM

George Hill spoke of his frustrating in his first season with the Kings.

Hill's numbers have dropped off dramatically and he often appears disengaged.

“Very frustrating,” Hill said. “I’ve never been through anything like this, not ever. It’s not what I expected, a little more difficult than I anticipated. I think as a team we all get along. We like being around each other, like doing things together. But we’re still trying to learn each other, and it’s a different style of play. I’ve just got to figure things out.”

Hill has been asked to play both guard positions and adapt on the fly to frequent lineup changes and contrasting combinations.

“Whatever they ask me to do is fine,” Hill insists. “We’re trying to develop the young guys, get them on the court. You’re going to have bumps and bruises when you have so many young guys with only one year of experience or less. My thing is, when you play a team like the Spurs, learn to play the right way. They commit, they talk, they screen hard. They get into their man. Become better by learning.”

Hill has already been discussed in trade rumors.

“One thing I’ve learned is that you have to keep your bags packed,” he added. “You never know. If it happens, it happens. But I’ve made great relationships in this locker room and with this club. If I leave, I’ll look them in the face, shake their hand and thank them for the opportunity.”
