Dave Joerger Asks Brandon Williams To Leave Shootaround

Nov 30, 2018 12:40 PM

The chasm between Dave Joerger and Sacramento Kings assistant general manager Brandon Williams is getting larger and more contentious.

On Thursday, Joerger asked that Williams not be present for the team's shootaround against the Clippers.

Williams had been on an extended stretch of travel to help avoid these types of conflicts and subsequently left with Vlade Divac as Joerger's request.

Joerger believes Williams was the source of a story about his future as head coach of the Kings that was published by Yahoo! Sports' Chris Haynes.

A source with knowledge of Joerger's thinking believes it was a one-time-only move intended to send a message to his players about the team's unity.

Divac attempted to calm these waters on Nov. 21, when he traveled from the Maui Invitational Tournament to Salt Lake City to meet with Joerger, Kings owner Vivek Ranadive, and Joerger’s agent, Warren LeGarie before the Kings faced Utah.

Dave Joerger Believes Brandon Williams Would Like To Replace Him

Nov 19, 2018 2:36 PM

Dave Joerger has believed that Sacramento Kings assistant general manager Brandon Williams has been on the lookout for a new coach to replace him since last season.

Williams replaced Scott Perry in 2017, joining the Kings' front office from the Philadelphia 76ers.

Sources say Joerger is not in danger of being fired anytime soon.

Vlade Divac released a statement in support of Joerger on Saturday.

“Dave has our full support and confidence,” his statement read. “We continue to work together to develop our young core and compete.”

Williams has been given additional power over the past year and handles most of the day-to-day operations while Divac has final say on personnel matters.

Kings Front Office Frustrated By How Dave Joerger Has Handled Young Players

Nov 17, 2018 9:52 PM

Dave Joerger and the front office of the Sacramento Kings are experiencing a disconnect on the priorities of the franchise and their direction.

The way Joerger is handling Marvin Bagley III in particular could eventually lead to his dismissal. Bagley was drafted second overall by the Kings.

The front office has grown frustrated by how the minutes and roles of the Kings' young prospects have been handled.

Joerger has prioritized minutes for his veterans and some players have been frustrated by the lack of communication over their role.

The Kings are currently on their fifth coach in six years.
