Kings, Blazers, Pelicans Seen As Teams Likely To Consider Trading Picks

May 20, 2022 12:03 PM

The Sacramento Kings were one of the big winners at the NBA Draft Lottery, as they jumped up to the fourth overall pick. The Portland Trail Blazers slid back a selection, while the New Orleans Pelicans held pat with the pick they got from the Los Angeles Lakers.

What those three have in common is that all are seen as teams likely to consider trading their picks for win-now veteran help.

The Kings desperately want to snap their 16-year playoff drought. If they can move the fourth overall pick to bring in a veteran to aid in a playoff push, it's something Sacramento is expected to strongly consider.

Portland is resetting their roster after not trading Damian Lillard and is known to be looking for veteran help. New Orleans is hoping to make a push up the standings with a healthy roster next season. Both teams would like to add players to help in a playoff push, as opposed to selecting a developmental prospect in the middle of the lottery.

Monte McNair Entering Final Season Of Contract With Kings

May 16, 2022 11:43 AM

While the Sacramento Kings signed Mike Brown to a four-year deal to become head coach, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic that Monte McNair is entering the final season of his contract and there have been no talks on a possible extension.

McNair was hired by the Kings during the 2020 offseason.

Sources tell The Athletic that McNair's status was a focal point for many of the coaching candidates as it could mean their partnership is on shaky ground.

There is significant pressure on McNair for the Kings to take a step forward in 22-23 and possibly end their league-long playoff drought.

Mike Brown Prepared To Accept Kings' Job If Offered

May 6, 2022 7:38 AM

Mike Brown is prepared to accept the head coaching job of the Sacramento Kings should it be offered to him, says his agent Warren LeGarie.

There's been some speculation that Brown would find it difficult to leave his position as lead assistant with the Golden State Warriors for what is a challenging head coaching position with the Kings.

“Mike is willing to take the job based on the fact that he knows he’ll be supported and have a chance to win,” LeGarie said. “He sees this as a good job and looks forward to being asked to be the head coach."

LeGarie said the job is appealing to Brown for a number of reasons.

“First and foremost, he likes the people who are working there,” LeGarie said. “He loves the arena. He thinks that’s a natural resource that will help attract players because you’ve always got to have a place where the fans are involved and the facilities are terrific. And he believes the team has enough talent to give them a real solid chance of becoming a playoff contender.”

Brown is one of three finalists along with Mark Jackson and Steve Clifford.

Kings To Decide Between Mark Jackson, Mike Brown, Steve Clifford By End Of Week

May 5, 2022 10:20 AM

The Sacramento Kings hope to make a decision on their head coaching search by the end of the week, sources tell Sam Amick of The Athletic.

The Kings are choosing between Mark Jackson, Steve Clifford and Mike Brown.

Jackson is considered the favorite and sources say he's the preferred candidate of Vivek Ranadive.

The Kings, however, insist that the three candidates are being considered evenly with Monte McNair given the leeway to make the final decision.

When the Kings parted ways with Michael Malone in 2014, Ranadive had a two-hour covert meeting with Jackson, other Kings officials and DeMarcus Cousins. The meeting led to questions of whether Jackson was being considered as the replamcent for Malone. Sacramento instead hired George Karl.

Brown has connections to the Kings via Wes Wilcox.
