Boris Diaw Continuing To Be Excluded From Popovich's Rest Program

Dec 27, 2015 12:45 AM

Gregg Popovich has made it a point the past few seasons to rest veterans Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker, but rarely has sat 33-year-old Boris Diaw.

"I think it's because Pop wants him to lose weight," Parker said. "But I have to give credit to Bobo though he's been playing very well and been taking care of his body. He's looking good and he played great tonight."

Diaw sees his lack of rest differently.

"Why would I? I'm so young," he said. "I'm same age as Tony, but I don't age as much as much as they do. I stay young."

Matt Bonner Will Continue Playing For As Long As He's Wanted

Dec 20, 2015 9:55 PM

Matt Bonner re-signed with the San Antonio Spurs in the offseason on a one-year deal.

Bonner has no plans to retire.

“I’ve always planned to play as long as possible,” said Bonner. “Whether that’s for health reasons I can’t play anymore or because nobody wants me. Those are the two ways I’m going out.”

Bonner has played 11 games this season.

Bonner is 35 and in his 12th NBA season.

"I understand that I’m getting up there in age, and I’m definitely on the later part of my career, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that this is my last year, or that doesn’t mean this isn’t my last year," said Bonner. "My plan, and it was the last two years really, is get through the year, see where I’m at physically, and see if I’m good enough where someone still wants me on the team.”

Parker: Spurs Seeing The LaMarcus We'll Need To Go On Run

Dec 19, 2015 4:36 PM

The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Los Angeles Clippers 115-107 on Friday. The Clippers eliminated the Spurs in the first round of last year's playoffs.

The Spurs are hoping the addition of LaMarcus Aldridge makes a difference in the playoffs this season.

"This is good for us," Aldridge said. "It makes us focus at the end of the game; not be so easy. I thought our guys played well down the stretch."

Aldridge shot 11 for 18 and grabbed 11 defensive rebounds in matching his season high for points.

"It was huge, it was huge," Parker said. "I felt like we really saw the LaMarcus we're going to need if we're going to make any kind of run."

Bob Myers Keeps Popovich Quote On Cell Phone As Constant Reminder

Dec 12, 2015 2:12 PM

Bob Myers believes the San Antonio Spurs remain the gold standard in the NBA.

“They are a model franchise,” Myers said. “We are all trying to emulate them.”

Myers made a seamless transition from NBA agent to executive with the Warriors.

Myers keeps a quote from Gregg Popovich saved on his cell phone.

“A synergy has to form between the owner, whoever his president is, whoever the GM is, whoever the coach is,” Popovich said in that quote from March of 2014 that Myers kept as a blueprint of sorts. “There’s got to be a synergy where there’s a trust. There (are) no walls. There is no territory. Everything is discussed. Everything is fair game. Criticism is welcome, and when you have that, then you have a hell of an organization. That free flow through all those people is what really makes it work. And that includes everything from draft to Os and Xs. Nothing should be left to one area – only to the president, only to the GM, only to the coach – or the culture just doesn’t form. At least that’s what’s worked for us.”

Gregg Popovich: Three-Pointers Are Non-Basketball Circus

Dec 10, 2015 12:09 PM

Gregg Popovich continued to voice his displeasure over how the three-pointer has changed basketball.

"I still hate it," Popovich told reporters before the Spurs' 97-94 loss to the Toronto Raptors. "I'll never embrace it. I don't think it's basketball. I think it's kind of like a circus sort of thing. Why don't we have a 5-point shot? A 7-point shot? You know, where does it stop, that sort of thing.

"But that's just me, that's just old-school. To a certain degree, you better embrace it or you're going to lose. And every time we've won a championship, the 3-point shot was a big part of it. Because it is so powerful and you've gotta be able to do it. And nobody does it better than Golden State, and you know where they're at. So it's important. You can't ignore it."

The Spurs won the Finals in 2014 in large part due to their use of the three-pointer.

"I can't be stubborn just because I personally don't like it and think it mucks up the game. ... I still hate it," said Popovich after the 2014 Finals.

Popovich: LaMarcus Aldridge Is Everything We Anticipated

Dec 4, 2015 7:20 PM

Despite LaMarcus Aldridge’s early struggles, Gregg Popovich said “he’s everything we anticipated.”

Aldridge is averaging just 14.8 points per game this season, down from 23.4 last season with the Portland Trail Blazers.

“It doesn’t really matter. It’s not about me,” Aldridge said. “It’s about the team, and the team’s been winning. So that’s all that matters, really.

The Spurs are still figuring out their offense but they're first in the NBA in defense.
