Hawks, Pistons, Blazers Most Frequently Mentioned As Potential Deandre Ayton Landing Spot

May 24, 2022 10:08 AM

The Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons and Portland Trail Blazers are the three teams most often linked to a potential pursuit of Deandre Ayton in restricted free agency.

The Charlotte Hornets and San Antonio Spurs are also logical fits for Ayton.

The Phoenix Suns decided not to offer a five-year, $170 million max contract to Ayton last offseason and they also quietly gauged his trade value at the deadline. One structure that was discussed was with the Indiana Pacers for Domantas Sabonis.

Some around the league believe Monty Williams has been frustrated by Ayton's "waning focus" and has contributed to inconsistent playing time.

The Suns may simply not view Ayton, or any center, as worth more than $30 million per season. Phoenix could then be amenable to a sign-and-trade for frontcourt help at a more affordable number.

Spurs Insist Franchise Will Remain In San Antonio

May 10, 2022 2:46 PM

The San Antonio Spurs released a statement from Peter J. Holt insisting the team has no plan to relocate.

"I want to reassure you that the Spurs are in San Antonio to stay," Holt said in a message posted on Twitter.

"My family became involved in the Spurs in the 90s because there was a real threat the team would be moved. We would not let that happen then and we will not let that happen now," Holt said. "There are no Spurs without the city and the people of San Antonio."

The Spurs recently requested playing two home games in Austin's new Moody Center.

A team official told the commission the franchise is simply trying to expand its brand.

Spurs Looking To Play More Home Games Outside Of San Antonio

May 3, 2022 9:02 AM

The San Antonio Spurs are looking to expand their regional reach by playing more home games outside of their home arena. The Spurs have looked into hosting games in Mexico, as well as other parts of Texas.

The Spurs are proposing to play up to four games a year away from San Antonio. Locations could include Mexico City and Monterrey, Mexico, as well as Austin and San Marcos, Texas.

Currently, the Spurs can play two home games per season outside of San Antonio, per their agreement with their home county of Bexar. In order to increase that amount, they'd need to approval from Bexar County, due to the non-relocation agreement the Spurs have with the county.
