Victor Wembanyama To Sit Back-To-Backs For Next Couple Weeks

Dec 30, 2023 1:05 AM

Victor Wembanyama will sit out back-to-back games for the next couple of weeks as he recovers from an ankle injury, according to Gregg Popovich.

Popovich added that Wembanyama is still on a minutes restriction.

"When we sat him in Dallas, he wasn't happy, but I'm glad he wasn't happy. He's a competitor. All these guys at this level, they didn't get here by being noncompetitive. So, he'd rather be playing. It frustrates him more than anything," said Popovich.

Wembanyama hurt his ankle after landing on a ball boy's foot during warm-ups last week.

Red McCombs owned at least a share of the Spurs for 11 years and was the team's primary owner for five years.

Keldon Johnson Could Be Moved By Spurs

Dec 14, 2023 9:36 AM

The San Antonio Spurs are working through a surplus of young wing players this season. In part, that's led to San Antonio experimenting with Jeremy Sochan playing point guard. Ultimately, it'll probably take a trade to thin things out a bit.

If that happens, it could be Keldon Johnson who is on the move from the Spurs. ESPN's Marc Spears said that he continues to hear that Johnson may not really fit with San Antonio's starting group and that he should be coming off the bench.

Johnson is owed $74 million over the next four seasons. His contract for this season is $20 million, and his deal descends year-to-year and finishes at $17.5 million in 2026-27. That's a movable contract, and the descending nature could be enticing to a contender that has luxury tax issues moving forward.

Dieng is now working for the Spurs front office as a "basketball operations representative". The 10-year veteran approached San Antonio about working as unpaid intern. The Spurs instead decided to pay Dieng to spend his time learning the ins and outs of the front office.
