Rumor: Raptors Open to Moving Bargnani

Mar 27, 2011 12:49 PM

It's rumored that the Raptors are open to moving center Andrea Bargnani, who has been anything but an impact player since entering the league in 2007 as the No. 1 overall pick.

They reportedly want to build the team around rookie big-man Ed Davis and second-year guard DeMar DeRozan.

Julian Wright Refuses To Enter Game

Mar 26, 2011 1:39 PM

During the third quarter of the Toronto Raptors' 138-100 defeat at the hands of the Golden State Warriors, Jay Triano called for Julian Wright to enter the game, only to watch Wright remain firmly seated on the visitors’ bench.

“I asked (Wright) to go in, and he didn’t go in,” Triano said. “I know he went to the washroom just before that. I don’t know if he wasn’t feeling well. I still haven’t talked to him.”

Wright, who left the locker-room in haste after the game, refused to answer a reporter’s questions about his non-performance.

One locker-room source speculated that Wright, whose playing time has been reduced lately, was upset he was only being asked to enter the game after it had degenerated into a blowout.

Barbosa May Not Need Offseason Wrist Surgery

Mar 24, 2011 10:29 AM

Offseason surgery on Leandro Barbosa's right wrist has appeared to be an inevitability, but his comments on Wednesday suggest it may not be necessary.

“I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to have the surgery or not. I’m doing okay right now," said Barbosa. "It’s something I need to talk to the trainers about it and the organization and Bryan, too. It’s almost the end of the season, we’ll see.”

Durant Injures Left Shoulder At End Of Charlotte Game

Mar 19, 2011 2:27 AM

With 1:40 left in the Thunder's 99-82 victory at home over Charlotte on Friday night, All-Star forward Kevin Durant suffered a bruised left shoulder injury and was taken to the locker room.

Durant was injured by an inadvertent right elbow from teammate James Harden while playing defense and fighting through a pick.

"It was a quick stinger," Durant said afterward. "They're being cautious. That's why they took me to the back, but I'm all right."

Thunder coach Scott Brooks said the injury will be re-examined before Saturday morning's light practice session. OKC hosts Toronto on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Kuester Pleased With Veteran Starting Lineup

Mar 17, 2011 2:49 AM

Using their 18th different lineup of the season, the Detroit Pistons coasted to a 107-93 victory over the Toronto Raptors Wednesday, ending a three-game losing streak.

Coach John Kuester basically went back to his veterans, starting Tracy McGrady, Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Ben Wallace and Greg Monroe. Wallace hadn't played since February 23.

"He practiced well, that was the reason," Kuester said. "Our veterans right now, they've worked awfully hard in these last two practices. They've had a history of not going as hard as they have the last couple of days. I'm very pleased."

"I think we will start (Wednesday's) lineup next game," Kuester said, although Hamilton's status is in doubt for Friday's game against the Knicks due to the death of his grandfather.

Colangelo May Have Foe In MLSE's Majority Owner

Mar 14, 2011 7:03 PM

Glen Silvestri, a representative of MLSE's majority owner, the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is not a supporter of Bryan Colangelo, according to multiple sources.

The board consists of seven seats and three belong to the Teachers' and one additional seat is held by CEO Richard Peddie who is for all intents and purposes duty-bound to the majority owner.

Silvestri is a chartered accountant who manages billions of dollars worth of the pension plan’s funds. He has criticized Colangelo's record as a GM and one source said he has even talked about his career as being a result of nepotism.

Because there are so many moving pieces, including a possible sale by the Pension Plan and a potential lockout, Colangelo's contract status is very uncertain. Sources say Colangelo could still be without a new deal at the time of the draft.

Granger Incensed By Barbosa's Final Shot

Mar 11, 2011 10:43 PM

Danny Granger took strong exception to Leanardo Barbosa attempting a shot with less than 10 seconds remaining in a game that Indiana had conceded with Toronto up 108-98.

"If I was on him I would have took his neck off him," Granger told Mike Wells of the Indianapolis Star. "That’s unsportsmanlike. I would have taken his head off and busted his lip.”

Barbosa had 29 points in the game on 21 shots.

The Pacers have now lost six consecutive games.

Triano Trying To Give Bayless More Minutes

Mar 11, 2011 11:27 AM

Jerryd Bayless has been traded twice this season, which has meant learning many new plays.

“The hardest part? Just the transition and learning all of the plays,” Bayless said. “I’ve learned three different playbooks, and each playbook is probably 60, 70 plays. So I’m learning 60 or 70 plays three times. Also, just finding out what everybody does well. With Portland, I knew because I’d been there for a few years. I went to New Orleans and I was only there for a few weeks. I tried to learn that. And then I came here. It’s definitely been an interesting year.”

Bayless has enjoyed his time with the club.

“I love not only the organization but the city,” he said.

But Bayless has also been inconsistent in his time with the Raptors.

“I think the one thing with him is he needs to play a little bit,” Raptors coach Jay Triano said. “I have probably not given him enough minutes up to this point. Over the last three or four games, I’ve been able to give him more minutes. I’ve been able to play him with Jose as well. I think he’s responded well to that. He’s playing through mistakes instead of going out there and being afraid he’s going to get pulled if he makes one.”

Bayless is under contract for one more season.

“It’s one thing to learn and know an offense,” Triano said. “It’s another thing to learn and know it from five positions. And that’s what we expect from our point guards.”
