Air Canada Centre To Be Renamed Scotiabank Arena

Scotiabank and Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) announced an expanded sponsorship and philanthropic partnership which will see the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors transformed into the Scotiabank Arena in July, 2018.

This 20-year strategic partnership also includes new philanthropic opportunities with the MLSE Foundation, and a digital collaboration between MLSE and the Scotiabank Digital Factory.

“We have always sought new and innovative partnerships with the goal of building strong and enduring communities,” said Brian Porter, Scotiabank’s President and CEO. “Today’s announcement is an extension of Scotiabank’s unwavering love of sports and our commitment to help young people reach their full potential. We believe that MLSE is an ideal partner for Scotiabank to reach our objectives.”

Brazil Removes Bruno Caboclo From Team After He Refuses To Enter Game

Bruno Caboclo has been indefinitely removed from the Brazil National Team after he refused to enter the second quarter of an AmeriCup game.

Caboclo had played 9 minutes and 21 seconds in the first quarter. When Caboclo was asked to return to the game, he refused to enter.

“Bruno Caboclo committed an act of indiscipline refusing to enter on the court when the coach requested him to do that. We cannot allow any player to commit any act of indiscipline while wearing the jersey of the Brazilian National Team,” said manager Renato Lamas.

Raptors Sign K.J. McDaniels

The Toronto Raptors have signed forward K.J. McDaniels. 

McDaniels, 6-foot-6, 205 pounds, split last season between Houston and Brooklyn, averaging 4.2 points, 1.7 rebounds and 10.3 minutes in 49 games. He scored in double figures eight times, including a season-high 16 points March 23 versus Phoenix. McDaniels was acquired by the Nets on February 23 from the Rockets.

A native of Birmingham, Alabama, McDaniels owns career averages of 5.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and 14.1 minutes in 148 career games (16 starts) with Philadelphia, Houston and Brooklyn. He was picked 32nd overall by the Sixers in the 2014 NBA Draft.

Raptors Sign Kyle Wiltjer

The Toronto Raptors have signed forward Kyle Wiltjer.

Wiltjer, 6-foot-10, 240 pounds, appeared in 14 games for the Houston Rockets last season, totaling 13 points and 10 rebounds in 44 minutes of action. He also averaged 20.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 35.9 minutes in 22 contests for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League. He shot .379 (81-for-214) from three-point range with the Vipers.    

Wiltjer signed with the Rockets as an undrafted free agent in September 2016. He played two collegiate seasons at Kentucky (2011-13) before transferring to Gonzaga (2014-16), where he averaged a team-high 20.4 points during his senior season. Wiltjer was named All-West Coast Conference First Team as a junior and senior.
