NBA Clears Cavaliers Of Wrongdoing On Patrick McCaw Contract

Jan 14, 2019 6:10 PM

The NBA has cleared the Cleveland Cavaliers of wrongdoing with their contract of Patrick McCaw.

The Golden State Warriors requested the inquiry.

The Cavaliers signed McCaw as a restricted free agent to a two-year, $6 million offer sheet. McCaw was waived by the Cavaliers after three games before his contract was guaranteed.

McCaw later signed with the Toronto Raptors.

The NBA said it found "no violation of the league's collective bargaining agreement, including the anti-circumvention rules."

Patrick McCaw To Sign With Raptors

Jan 9, 2019 6:33 PM

The Toronto Raptors are planning to sign Patrick McCaw for the rest of this season for the veteran's minimum of $786,000.

The 23-year-old was most recently waived by the Cavs earlier this week after signing a non-guaranteed 2-year, $6 million deal.

The NBA is investigating the Cavs for possibility circumventing the salary cap after waiving McCaw. Most league executives are skeptical that the Cavs would be punished.

Thunder Re-Signing Paul George Emboldened Raptors On Kawhi Leonard Trade

Jan 8, 2019 2:27 PM

The Toronto Raptors have privately admitted that the success of the Oklahoma City Thunder in convincing Paul George to re-sign with the team last offseason emboldened them to pursue their trade for Kawhi Leonard.

Executives from the Thunder credit the bond George formed with Russell Westbrook as the most significant factor in his decision.

Kyle Lowry has been more reluctant to play the role of recruiter.

“Kawhi is an unbelievable basketball player,” said Lowry. “He just does him. There are a lot of things he can do talent-wise where you’re just like wow.”

Lowry says he and Leonard have become friendly.

Ujiri maintains a regular dialogue with Leonard, as well as his agent, Mitch Frankel, and his uncle Dennis Robertson.

Masai Ujiri: I Have A Mandate To Win A Championship

Jan 8, 2019 2:19 PM

The Toronto Raptors have never dipped below 48 victories during the tenure of Masai Ujiri, but they also have yet to reach The Finals. The Raptors perhaps have their best opportunity with Kawhi Leonard and an excellent supporting cast.

“I have a mandate . . . to win a championship,” said Ujiri. “You can’t continue doing the same thing over and over again. We gave a chance to [that] team. We tried to build it as much as we can.”

The Raptors made a bold move in trading for Leonard, especially given how difficult of a person he has been to get a read on.

“We got as much information as we could, and we made a decision,” said Bobby Webster.

Gregg Popovich 'Felt Badly' Over Kawhi Leonard Getting Booed By Fans

Jan 4, 2019 3:04 AM

Gregg Popovich stated that he felt badly for how Kawhi Leonard was received by the San Antonio crowd following their 125-107 win versus the Toronto Raptors.

"I felt badly about it. Kawhi's a high-character guy. We all make decisions in our lives with what we're going to do with our futures, and he has that same right as any of us. So I felt badly, in all honesty," said Popovich.

Leonard was booed throughout the game, culminating with Spurs fans chanting "traitor" as Leonard shot free-throws in the second quarter.

Leonard finished with 21 points and five assists. He and Popovich embraced following the game.

"I feel good except for losing the game. I'm glad I walked off the floor healthy. We got some things as a team to look at and get better at. But the past is the past and I'm still playing.I really won't reflect on what has happened until I retire. I just try to keep moving and get better on what we are doing," added Leonard.

Gregg Popovich Regrets Leadership Comments About Kawhi Leonard

Jan 3, 2019 10:40 PM

According to sources, Gregg Popovich regretted comments he made recently about Kawhi Leonard's leadership.

"Kawhi was a great player, but he wasn't a leader or anything," Popovich said of Leonard. "Manu [Ginobili] and Patty [Mills] were the leaders. Kawhi's talent will always be missed, but that leadership wasn't his deal at that time."

Popovich regretted the comments and also how they were perceived.
