NBA Postpones Five Games Through Tuesday

Dec 19, 2021 2:06 PM

With COVID outbreaks around the NBA, combined with injuries, several NBA teams are struggling to put competitive rosters on the court. As such, the NBA has postponed five games through Tuesday, December 21.

The postponed games are:

Denver Nuggets at Brooklyn Nets - Sunday, December 19

Cleveland Cavaliers at Atlanta Hawks - Sunday, December 19

New Orleans Pelicans at Philadelphia 76ers - Sunday, December 19

Orlando Magic at Toronto Raptors - Monday, December 20

Washington Wizards at Brooklyn Nets - Tuesday, December 21

This brings the total number of postponed games to seven. The league previously postponed two Chicago Bulls games against the Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors.

The NBA and NBPA are continuing talks on increased roster sizes, as well as lack of cap/tax penalties when a player is signed via hardship.

Fred VanVleet On Missing Triple-Double: My Teammates Don't Give Me The Westbrook Treatment

Dec 19, 2021 8:54 AM

Fred VanVleet missed out on a triple-double in the Toronto Raptors win over the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night. VanVleet wasn't upset about missing out but poked a little fun at the NBA's triple-double king Russell Westbrook postgame.

"My teammates, they're not giving me the Westbrook treatment where they get out of the way and let me go get it. So, I might have to have a talk with them about that."

During his Oklahoma City Thunder days, Westbrook's rebounding numbers were regularly panned as being inflated by his teammates letting him collect boards they should have gotten.

VanVleet laughed and suggested he needs to be more "selfish" when he gets close to a triple-double. The Raptors guard said "I just can't make myself hunt (rebounds) when I get close. It's hard for me being the shortest guy on the court."

Pascal Siakam, Dalano Banton Enter Health And Safety Protocols

Dec 19, 2021 8:23 AM

The Toronto Raptors are the latest team to be hit by COVID around the NBA. Pascal Siakam and Dalano Banton have both entered the NBA's health and safety protocols.

Both players were ruled out before Saturday night's win over the Golden State Warriors. In part due to COVID concerns with crossing the border, the Warriors sent several players home versus having them travel to Toronto.

Both Siakam and Banton will be out for at least 10 days, unless they can return two negative tests at least 24 hours apart. Siakam is a key starter for the Raptors, while Banton has emerged as a bench contributor as a rookie.

Masai Ujiri Tests Positive For COVID-19

Dec 9, 2021 9:25 PM

Masai Ujiri announced on Thursday that he's tested positive for COVID-19.

“On Sunday, Giants of Africa held our first in-person event since 2019," said Ujiri. "It was organized in compliance with all current public health guidance – everyone who attended had to show proof of vaccination, and to wear masks when not eating or drinking. Unfortunately, after the gala, we learned of positive COVID-19 tests among our guests – and even though I am fully vaccinated and have received a booster shot, I also subsequently tested positive. I am now at home, observing the safety protocols by self-isolating for 10 days, monitoring for symptoms and undergoing testing, and I encourage everyone who attended to please do the same. We don’t want to live in fear of this virus, but COVID is a persistent enemy. Together, we’ll defeat it.”

Goran Dragic Would Prefer To Join Mavericks

Dec 6, 2021 8:59 AM

Goran Dragic is away from the Toronto Raptors on a team-approved personal leave. If Dragic gets his way, he won't return to the Raptors this season.

If Dragic can get free from Toronto, his preferred destination is the Dallas Mavericks. Dragic would reportedly like to play with fellow Slovenian Luka Doncic. Dragic is also happy to accept a bench role with the Mavericks.

Upon being traded to the Raptors from the Miami Heat this offseason, Dragic expressed his disappointment. The veteran guard initially said he would like to be traded again or waived but walked those comments back. Dragic then reported to the team on-time for training camp.

Dragic has played in just five games for Toronto this season. It's widely expected that Dragic and the Raptors will discuss a buyout of his $19.4 million expiring contract, assuming there isn't a trade by the trade deadline.
