Raptors Still Hope To Trade Goran Dragic By Deadline

Sep 30, 2021 11:11 PM

Goran Dragic reported to the Toronto Raptors despite initially expressing a hope he would end up with a contending team following his trade from the Miami Heat.

According to TSN, the Raptors still hope to trade Dragic for an asset or two by the deadline.

“He's been fantastic,” Nick Nurse said. “I checked in with him after the trade, a few days after some of that stuff. We discussed possible roles, and he's just like, 'coach, whatever, I'm good’. He's very enjoyable to talk to. He's got a super high IQ. He loves the game, obviously, competes to win, plays smart. He's been really, really fun to have.”

Dragic addresses a need at the guard position as he could either play next to Fred VanVleet or he can also anchor a second unit.

Pascal Siakam Struggled With Lack Of Communication From Raptors On Being 'The Guy'

Sep 16, 2021 4:38 PM

After Pascal Siakam signed a maximum contract extension with the Toronto Raptors in 2019, he struggled with his place within the franchise.

"I think it’s growing, obviously," said Siakam to Sopan Deb of the New York Times.. "Because I just think that for me, I feel the love. Obviously, Masai, we go way back and I’ll always have a ton of respect for Masai and everything that he’s done for the continent [Africa].

"For me at that point when I started becoming that person, I just felt like there wasn’t that much level of communication, to be honest. And that was the only thing really that I felt. It was like, 'We got you the max contract, but are you the guy?' I think that’s something that I was struggling with."

Siakam was asked to clarify what he meant by the statement.

"Obviously, Kyle [Lowry] was there, being a point guard," said Siakam. "Kyle was, to me, always the greatest Raptor of all time. I think he was always like, 'I was the guy.' I had the contract, but I never really felt like I was the guy, to be honest."

Siakam was asked whether he wanted them to tell him 'you're the centerpiece that's going to take us to the repeat championship.'

"Yeah. I never really felt like there was that. And I think those conversations are happening now."

Siakam was also asked whether he was irritated by the way he surfaced in trade rumors.

"It didn’t bother me really, because I never really heard anything from the Raptors. Even all the news I was seeing it was never like: “Oh. The Raptors wanted to give up Siakam for this.” It was always like, 'The Warriors like Pascal,' or it was always, 'The Kings like Pascal,' or this. There was never nothing where it was like, 'The Raptors wanted to give away Pascal.'"

Masai Ujiri: Raptors Not A Team Of 'Now'

Sep 9, 2021 3:22 PM

The Toronto Raptors won the 2019 championship but lost Kawhi Leonard that offseason and now have lost Kyle Lowry, which has sent them to a bit of a franchise reset.

Toronto's now core includes a pair of 27-year-olds in Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet, a 24-year-old in OG Anunoby and 20-year-old Scottie Barnes.

"We are not a team of 'now,'" Ujiri said. "There are going to be growing pains, trust me, you know like, sometimes it's gonna be tough to watch but we know what's coming, we know we're excited about the young talent. They are excited to play - to see how, OG [Anunoby], Pascal [Siakam], Fred, are going to evolve as leaders - as elite players.

"And then the young guys, [Scottie] Barnes, Malachi [Flynn], Dalano [Banton]. In sports, people think 'now,' you know? And this is where we have to be patient and let it grow."

Ujiri also talked about his decision to remain with the Raptors.

"Toronto has become home for me, for my family. There's something about this space of Toronto, of Canada, that really is special. It gives me a good platform to speak, to represent and it's a unique space."
