Jazz Not Planning On Trading Either Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert

Apr 20, 2020 11:13 PM

There have been questions about whether Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert will repair their relationship long-term. For now, the Utah Jazz have no plans to break up their core.

"There aren’t any plans on trading either one of them," writes Tony Jones of The Athletic. "If you made a list of the most untouchable players in the league, Mitchell would be on that list. He’s a dynamic talent, who is very well liked and a draw to other players around the league. He’s been terrific in the community. Most important, the Jazz have years of team control left in regards to his contract.

"As for Gobert, the Jazz have built their entire identity defensively around his talents. He’s one of the top 15 players in the league. He’s a unique player in the league. It’s imprudent to speculate on who the Jazz can get for either guy, because there aren’t any plans on trading either guy."

Relationship Between Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert 'Doesn't Appear Salvageable'

Apr 11, 2020 1:41 AM

The relationship between Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert "doesn’t appear salvageable" due to the fallout from both players testing positive for COVID-19, league sources told The Athletic.

Mitchell admitted last month that it "took awhile for me to kind of cool off" at Gobert, who was the first player in the NBA to test positive.

The Athletic reports that Jazz officials tried to convince Mitchell that there was no way of knowing whether Gobert gave Mitchell the virus, or vice-versa.

Joe Ingles said he wasn't worried about the chemistry between Mitchell and Gobert.

“I’m confident our team is going to be totally fine. I heard Donovan’s response (on GMA), or whatever it was, to that question, and a part of that is on Donovan and Rudy to sort out if he’s frustrated with him or whatever. But I have no doubt when we go back to training, or when our season starts again, our team is going to be what we have been and what we are."

The Chicago Bulls have interviews planned with Arturas Karnisovas and Justin Zanik.

Karnisovas is currently general manager of the Denver Nuggets while Zanik holds the same position with the Utah Jazz.

Zanik attended Northwestern and also has experience as a player agent.

The Bulls are increasingly less less likely to interview Bobby Webster of the Toronto Raptors or Adam Simon of the Miami Heat. Both Webster and Simon are expected to be retained by their current teams.
