Conley Finally Returns

Dec 31, 2007 12:49 PM

Mike Conley wore a uniform for the first time in six weeks and made his official return from a shoulder injury that's kept him out since Nov. 18. Conley, who suffered a posterior labral tear in his right shoulder, entered the Grizzlies' game against the San Antonio Spurs with 8:25 left in the second period.

Before the game, Griz Head Coach Marc Iavaroni said he wanted Conley to immediately play under pressure and test his physical strength.

Stoudamire Says Grizzles Need To Get Tougher

Dec 26, 2007 6:09 PM

After 13 years of running a team on the floor and working closely on the bench with the men responsible for wins and losses, veteran point guard Damon Stoudamire has seen enough to put a finger on the Grizzlies' ragged start to the season.

Stoudamire is no longer willing to dance around the issue. He wants the Grizzlies to stop being soft.

"After a while, there's only so much a coach can do," Stoudamire said.

"The guys in this locker room have to decide when enough is going to be enough. We, as players, have to get tough. We have to help each other on defense and offense. We have to trust each other. ...When we get after it, we're not that bad."

The Griz enter their home game tonight against the New Orleans Hornets having lost nine of the past 11 games. They've dropped five of six outings at home, including a demoralizing defeat at the hands of Andre Iguodala and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Bulls Ready To Deal Wallace?

Dec 26, 2007 7:24 AM

Serious trade talk typically doesn't begin until January in the NBA, but logic would suggest Chicago Bulls general manager John Paxson is ready to explore ways to trade center Ben Wallace.

The Bulls would have to pay a premium, but one positive is that his contract was front-loaded, which means from the original $60 million deal, he's owed $28.5 million over the next two seasons.

"Change is not always bad," Wallace said after Saturday's dismal 116-98 home loss to Houston. "If everybody wants to be here, we have to step it up."

The most obvious trade targets for the Bulls are New Jersey Nets point guard Jason Kidd and Memphis Grizzlies center Pau Gasol.

Rockets Interested In Trading For Heat's Williams?

Dec 24, 2007 3:27 AM

The Houston Chronicle reported that the Rockets would have some interest in trading for Heat guard Jason Williams, who has been inconsistent this season but has an attractive expiring contract. Another was mentioned in The (New York) Daily News, which claimed the Heat and Grizzlies are discussing a deal that would bring Mike Miller to Miami and send either Williams or Ricky Davis to Memphis.

The Heat has a number of needs, which include point-guard depth, a long-range shooter and help in the post. Riley recently said he anticipated there would be plenty of misinformation affiliated with the Heat's interest.

"The real stuff, if anything happens, most people don't know about it," Riley said.

Miami Looking To Make Deal For Miller And Swift

Dec 23, 2007 12:35 PM

Desperate to give Dwyane Wade a long-distance shooter on the perimeter, where Miami misses Jason Kapono and James Posey, the Heat is looking at making a deal for Memphis' Mike Miller. With Alonzo Mourning suffering what figures to be a career-ending knee injury, the Heat might also try to expand the deal to include Stromile Swift.

Grizzlies Sign Jeremy Richardson From D-League

Dec 20, 2007 1:13 PM

Richardson, a 6-7, 195-pound swingman, was averaging a league-high 28.5 points, 6.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.63 steals in 41.5 minutes in eight games this season for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA D-League.

?We are pleased to call Jeremy Richardson up from the NBA Development League's Fort Wayne Mad Ants,? said Grizzlies' General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace. ?He is an exciting young talent whose career is on a real upswing.  Jeremy can shoot the three-pointer, is very good at coming off screens and is blessed with impressive length and size for a perimeter player."

?Jeremy has received excellent coaching and an opportunity to develop his game against strong competition in an NBA-like setting over his time in the D-League.  The D-League is an invaluable training ground for talented young players such as Jeremy who need to transition into professional basketball.?

Conley's Close To Return

Dec 18, 2007 1:10 PM

Mike Conley, out since Nov. 18 with a posterior labral tear in his right shoulder, only needs to be cleared for contact practices -- something that could happen as soon as Tuesday.

The Grizzlies' medical staff still must re-evaluate Conley.

"Without any stress on it, I can dribble the ball and I can shoot," Conley said. "I feel like I'm back when I'm out there running by myself. But there's still a little weakness in it to the point where I don't know how it would react to getting bumped."
