Ja Morant: Hurts To Hear Fans Telling Me To Sit Out

Dec 21, 2021 9:14 AM

Ja Morant made his return to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night after missing three weeks with a sprained knee. Not all Grizzlies fans were happy to see their star guard back though, following the team's 10-2 record without him.

As Memphis fell to the visiting Oklahoma City Thunder, Morant said he was hurt by remarks from some of the home fans. Angry with losing to a team they beat by an NBA-record 73 points without Morant, fans took those frustrations out on the point guard.

"Even during the game, I was running down the court and I heard some of my fans courtside tell me I need to sit back out," Morant said. "So, I just don’t understand what they wanted to get out of that. I feel like that just makes it worse.”

Morant added that the remarks from Memphis fans stung.

"I’m just frustrated. Normally, y’all have seen it, when anybody says something negative about me, it fuels me.," Morant said. "But, tonight, the remarks from the fans actually hurt. I’m going to do what I normally do and bounce back and I’m very excited for this next game.”

Later Monday evening, Morant took to social media to say he's taking a break from various platforms for a while.

Grizzlies Hope Ja Morant Rejoins Team This Weekend

Dec 18, 2021 8:26 AM

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been away from the team over the last week, as he entered the NBA's health and safety protocols. Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins said the teams hopes Morant rejoins them this weekend.

Jenkins said Morant is "feeling great" from both his injury and illness. There hasn't been a firm return-to-play date set yet for Morant, as he recovers from a sprained left knee.

Morant has missed 11 straight games for the Grizzlies since getting injured on November 28. Since that point, Memphis has won 10 of their last 11 games. The Grizzlies have had two five-game win streaks sandwiched around a lone loss.

Dillon Brooks Blasts NBA Officials After Ejection

Dec 9, 2021 9:10 AM

Dillon Brooks isn't happy with the state of NBA officiating. Following his ejection during the final seconds of the Memphis Grizzlies loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Brooks didn't hold back on his thoughts on the officials.

"As you saw in the game, we've been playing physical basketball for about a week now. And all of a sudden, new officials come in here and they call an inconsistent game. They want to call ticky-tack in the first half and then in the second half they want to call nothing," Brooks said. "And then you got guys getting undercut, getting hit on the floor, no call. There's a lack of protection of the players and that's the main thing, I felt like this crew came out there and just made it about them and that's bull."

Brooks didn't put all the blame on the referees for the loss. He held himself and the Grizzlies accountable for poor rebounding and lack of hustle. But Brooks wasn't about to the let the officials off the hook, despite knowing a fine is likely coming his way.

"But this crew did not protect the players. They just wanted to get the game over with and that's (expletive)," said Brooks. "That's (expletive) from the very beginning. That's bull."
