Leonsis Happy To Be At No. 3, Ready To Escape Lottery Cycle

May 31, 2012 11:20 PM

Ted Leonsis shared his thoughts on the results of the draft lottery.

“I was pretty happy, because you always want to get one of the top two or three guys and we’re going to get a really good player with the No. 3 pick,” Leonsis said.

Washington has picked in the lottery in two out of the last three seasons.

“I don’t want to be in the lottery anymore. It’s not a lot of fun,” Leonsis said, before adding, “Without pain, there is no gain.”

To that end, the Wizards have designed an offseason training program for John Wall.

“We’ve laid out with John Wall’s people, every single day,” Leonsis said. “Nutrition. Strength and conditioning. Shooting. Who he is going to be playing with. What he is doing on the business side. It just feels good that you can be in control of the outcome and these young kids are really ready to work.”

Wizards Prefer To Trade Lewis, Blatche

May 30, 2012 9:25 AM

The Wizards have the option of buying out Rashard Lewis for $13.7 million, which would represent an approximate reduction of payroll of $10 million.

Lewis is scheduled to be the second highest paid player in the NBA.

Washington has until June 30th to complete the buyout.

The Wizards can also create more cap space by using their amnesty clause on Andray Blatche.

But multiple sources contend the Wizards will look to trade both Lewis and Blatche rather than pay them not to play for the club.

Varejao, Nene, Barbosa Added To Brazil's Preliminary Roster For Olympics

May 21, 2012 10:27 AM

Anderson Varejao, Nene, and Leondro Barbosa were included Monday on the preliminary list of players who could make Brazil's squad for the upcoming Olympics.

“I knew they would be within the list,” Brazil coach Ruben Magnano said. “With them Brazil gets stronger.”

Varejao, still recovering from a broken wrist, has competed at the last two FIBA World Championships.

"I’ve played in a lot of competitions with Brazil, but playing in the Olympics is different,” Varejao said. "I’m very motivated. I think we have a group capable of fighting for a medal in London."

Wall Spending Offseason Studying Tempo

May 2, 2012 10:14 AM

John Wall will focus his ability to control the tempo, studying the likes of Tony Parker and Chris Paul.

“Those two, him and Chris Paul, in the playoffs, they are very in control of their team and they are smart type point guards that pick [you] apart throughout the whole game,” said Wall.

Wall's speed is arguably his biggest strength, but controlling the pace and tempo is what often separates the good point guards from the great ones.
