John Wall Disappointed With Preseason Performance

Oct 25, 2013 10:36 AM

John Wall is disappointed with how he performed in the preseason following his $80 million, maximum extension.

Wall played particularly bad on Wednesday with more turnovers (four) than points (three), shooting 1-for-7 in 26 minutes.

“I didn’t play too good this whole preseason, to me, to be honest,” Wall said.

Wall shot 35.4 percent from the floor during the preseason and 11.8 percent on three-point attempts.

“Not taking good shots and turning the ball over a little too much,” Wall said. “Getting frustrated in those situations.”

Wizards' Offense Struggling After Focusing Heavily On Defense In Camp

Oct 22, 2013 12:47 PM

Randy Wittman spent the first week of the Washington Wizards' training camp almost exclusively on defense and their offense is clearly lagging behind at this point in the preseason.

The Wizards want to be an uptempo team with John Wall's penetration creating open perimeter looks for their shooters.

The Wizards are shooting just 27.8 percent from three and are averaging 21.6 turnovers per game.

“We’ve got to get better there,” Wittman said of the Wizards’ offensive output. “I knew it would kind of be that way. Always is, if you’re concentrating as I said we were going to do from a defensive standpoint, laying our foundation. Again, you’re concerned. We’re going to have nights where we’re not shooting the ball well. I guarantee you, but our defense has got to win those games for us.”

“I mean it’s preseason right now and those are the things you work on and get your kinks out,” said Wall. “I think we’re doing a great job, just have to be more consistent as a team.”

Garrett Temple To Assume 'Utility Player' Role For Wizards

Oct 19, 2013 1:27 PM

The Washington Wizards are banking on the versatility of Garrett Temple again this season.

Temple is unlikely to make 36 starts like he did last season, but Randy Wittman praised the 6-foot-6 swingman.

“He’s like a great utility player in baseball,” Wittman said of Temple. “I want guys who are very versatile in what they do. It gives you different options in the course of the game, gives you different options when you have injuries.”

The Wizards will have a healthy John Wall to start the season.

“Honestly, I think it’s going to be ever-changing,” Temple said of his role this season. “I’m going to be that guy to be counted on, that can defend and run the team if need be, play [shooting guard] if need be. Be a guy that will be professional at all times.”

Oct 17, 2013 3:50 PM

Nene has returned to the Washington Wizards, but he is unlikely to play against the New York Knicks on Thursday.

Nene had been in Brazil visiting his father, who is battling a serious illness.

“It was good to have him back,” Wizards forward Martell Webster said of Nene. “You could definitely see he had some pain in his eyes. You know him having to be down there with his family and his father going through what he has to go through. It’s good to have him back and we welcome him with open arms. Let him know we’re here for him. But it’s always good to have one of your family members back.”
