Otto Porter Wasn't Offended By John Wall's Lobbying For Paul George

Jul 21, 2017 11:23 AM

John Wall publicly lobbied for the Washington Wizards to trade for Paul George this offseason but they ultimate retained Otto Porter.

“It’s a difference between a role player and a superstar," said Wall at the NBA's awards show.

Porter signed a $106.5 million offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets that was matched by the Wizards while George was traded by the Indiana Pacers to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

“I didn’t take no offense to what John had to say. End of the day, it’s just motivating me to get to where that level is. It’s all good,” Porter told The Vertical. “I’ve always had that in the back of mind, what type of player I want to be. I’ve always wanted to be an All-Star type player. I feel like I don’t have a ceiling. I can only get better from here on. And for me, it’s the work that I put in and the goals that I set for myself.”

Ted Leonsis Predicts John Wall Will Sign Supermax With Wizards

Jul 19, 2017 5:43 PM

While John Wall has yet to agree upon a four-year, $170 million supermax extension with the Washington Wizards, Ted Leonsis expects him to eventually sign it.

“I told everyone that when John was coming off his rookie contract, we would sign him and he would be our bedrock player,” Leonsis said.

“I told everybody that we would keep Bradley Beal, and already everyone is talking about the [Wall] extension,” Leonsis continued. “So my prediction is John Wall will sign his extension. He wants to be here and my goal is to have no drama.”

For the first time in franchise history, the Wizards have become a luxury tax paying team.

John Wall Addresses Recruitment Of Paul George, Possible Supermax Extension

Jul 10, 2017 8:13 PM

John Wall spoke about his open recruitment of Paul George to the Washington Wizards. George was ultimately traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder while the Wizards match an offer sheet to keep Otto Porter.

“Otto’s going to be a great player for us, a great role player for a lot of teams. There’s a difference between a role player and a superstar. It’s a big difference. There’s a lot teams that will make a lot of trades for a superstar,” Wall said. “Look at Kevin Love getting traded for Andrew Wiggins, you never know who that player going to turn out to be.”

Wall then addressed the reaction to his comments.

“It’s what people are going to say about it,” Wall said. “I love Otto as a teammate, but at the end of the day if you can make your team better, you can always do that. If people take it the wrong way, then so be it.”

Wall can sign a supermax extension with the Wizards this offseason.

“I’m just chillin’. Just trying to figure out to negotiate it and manipulate it the way you want it to be,” Wall said. “Everybody know where I want to play and where I want to be. Everybody took it the wrong way [when it was reported] I wanted to wait. It’s a big decision. I love D.C.

“Everything I do, I do it for the city of D.C., I do so much in the community. If it wasn’t for the love of that, I wouldn’t do it.”
