John Wall Will Not Join Wizards In Orlando Due To Exposure Concerns

Jun 30, 2020 1:26 AM

Washington Wizards GM Tommy Sheppard said that John Wall will not join the team in Orlando due to exposure concerns surrounding COVID-19.

"Having somebody go into that bubble that’s not gonna play, that’s just more people going into the bubble. … I don’t think it’s wise to have people in and around the team that aren’t playing (because of) exposure," said Sheppard at a press conference on Monday.

Sheppard added that he hasn't received any indication that other players would opt out of going to Orlando after Davis Bertans declined to join the team.

Teams are allowed to bring 35 people into the bubble.

Sheppard said that the Wizards would "over-index on medical staff," as well as focus on player development coaches.

Davis Bertans Opts Out Of Orlando Restart Ahead Of Free Agency

Jun 22, 2020 12:35 PM

Davis Bertans will sit out the restart of the 19-20 season in Orlando.

Bertans is entering free agency and views sitting out as a preventative measure. Bertans has two previous ACL injuries. If the Wizards don't advance past the seeding games in Orlando, he stands to lose $520,000.

The Washington Wizards fully support Bertans' decision and are unlikely to qualify for the playoffs.

Wes Unseld Passes Away At 74

Jun 2, 2020 10:37 AM

Hall of Famer Wes Unseld has passed away at the age of 74.

The family said in a statement that Unseld had lengthy health issues, most recently with pneumonia.

"He was the rock of our family -- an extremely devoted patriarch who reveled in being with his wife, children, friends and teammates," the family said. "He was our hero and loved playing and working around the game of basketball for the cities of Baltimore and Washington D.C., cities he proudly wore on his chest for so many years."

Unseld was part of the franchise's only NBA title, in 1978, when he was named Finals MVP. He won the regular-season MVP award in 1969 and was a five-time All-Star.
