Bradley Beal will be a free agent in 2022 so while he and the Washington Wizards have wanted to remain together, a long-term decision is impending.

League sources tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer that Beal's decision to play through this season with Washington is as much a commitment to give things a try with Russell Westbrook at is about making a life-altering decision during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sources add that the Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks and New Orleans Pelicans are among the teams with interest in pursuing Beal. One league source also states that the Toronto Raptors are a sleep team for Beal, which may have contributed to Masai Ujiri's reluctance to trade away Kyle Lowry since he believes they can contend again next season.

A number of other teams have also been linked to Beal by other media outlets, most notably the Golden State Warriors.

The Washington Wizards have agreed to trade Troy Brown and Mo Wagner to the Chicago Bulls for Daniel Gafford and Chandler Hutchinson.

With the 2021 trade deadline this week, Bradley Beal has not indicated he would like a trade and the Washington Wizards have not made him available for one, according to people with knowledge of the situation that spoke with Ava Wallace of the Washington Post.

The Wizards were 13th in the Eastern Conference entering games on Monday.

One NBA executive put it, the Wizards’ front office is “operating as if they’ve got time on their hands.”

The Cleveland Cavaliers traded for Jarrett Allen as part of the James Harden trade and he'll be a restricted free agent this offseason.

The Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs and Washington Wizards are expected to pursue Allen.

The Brooklyn Nets offered a four-year, $48 million extension before the season, which he declined.

Allen will open to all situations as he seeks his first large NBA contract.

Davis Bertans will miss the next two weeks due to a right calf strain. 

Bertans suffered the injury in the Wizards win over the Jazz on Thursday night.

Bertans is averaging 10.8 points while shooting 38.2% from the three-point line this season. 

The Washington Wizards are not engaging with teams who call about the availability of Bradley Beal ahead of next week's deadline, sources tell The Athletic.

Beal also has not asked for a trade from the Wizards.

Beal can become a free agent after the 21-22 season and is widely considered the next star player who could become available in a trade.

The Washington Wizards and Bradley Beal have remained adamant publicly and privately that they don't want to consider a trade at this point.

While Beal hasn't had the kind of success enjoyed by Stephen Curry with the Golden State Warriors and Damian Lillard with the Portland Trail Blazers, the thought is he actually in the same category when it comes to wanting to remain with the team that drafted him.

“In terms of franchise loyalty, I think Beal is in the same category as Steph and Dame right now,” a rival executive said of Beal. The same executive said he's given up reaching out to the Wizards trying to trade for Beal.

Beal can become a free agent in 2022 as he has a player option worth $37.3 million.

Beal is widely considered the best player in the league who could conceivably hit the trade market.
