Tommy Sheppard On Future Of Scott Brooks: Wizards To Undergo 'Thorough Evaluation'

Jun 4, 2021 1:30 AM

Washington Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard said on Thursday that the team has yet to make a decision on the future of Scott Brooks.

"We are not doing anything about that today. We obviously are going to do a thorough evaluation from top to bottom of our whole organization and ways we can get better. But any questions about that stuff, that is not for today," said Sheppard.

The 55-year-old Brooks finished the final year of his contract this season.

Brooks stated that he wants to return as the Wizards coach, drawing support from Russell Westbrook.

Sheppard also added that he plans to continue building around Bradley Beal.

"We have built this team around Bradley, and that is our intention moving forward," Sheppard said. "I think he is positive about moving forward in the future."

Bradley Beal Says He Hasn't 'Though About' Future Following Playoff Elimination

Jun 3, 2021 1:22 AM

Bradley Beal said he hasn't considered his future after the Washington Wizards were eliminated from the playoffs by the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night.

"I haven't even ... we're not gonna think about that, or even talk about it, right now," said Beal. "I haven't thought about none of that, as of yet."

Beal finished with 32 points, seven rebounds, and five assists as the Wizards lost 129-112 in Game 5.

Beal added that he will evaluate his situation later this offseason as he enters the final year of his contract.

"Ultimately, I'm in control. I think that's my biggest thing. People are going to report whatever they want, but I know where my mind is and I know if it's not coming from the horse's mouth, then it's going to be rumors ... I guess it's going to increase a lot more this year with me going into the last year of my deal, but for me, I'm just relaxing, resting my body and we'll evaluate all that when summer comes," said Beal.

Scott Brooks, meanwhile, expressed his desire to remain with the team.

Russell Westbrook agreed that Brooks should return next season.

"I don't see why Scott should go anywhere. Not just because we're close but he's done a hell of a job with our team, with our program since I've been here and just [being] around our team and our coaching staff, just understanding how important his impact was to this organization and when I got here I was able to see it firsthand."

The fan touched the backboard during game play before getting tackled by security and handcuffed by police.

"They have no fear," said Scott Brooks after the game. "I don't know the law. But I just know you shouldn't be able to do that and get away with it and just be kicked out because we all know you can dress different and look different and get into an arena."

Monumental Sports, the parent company of the Wizards, announced that the fan would be banned and they would look into pressing charges.
