Heat Considered Legitimate Suitor For Bradley Beal

Mar 21, 2022 10:10 AM

The Miami Heat are viewed as a legitimate suitor for Bradley Beal should he seek an exit from the Washington Wizards this offseason, multiple sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Miami would need to complete a sign-and-trade in order to acquire Beal from the Wizards. The Philadelphia 76ers also did their due diligence on a potential trade for Beal.

Across the NBA, however, there is an expectation that Beal will ultimately decide to re-sign with the Wizards. Every year, Beal and his representatives evaluate the landscape with the Wizards and options elsewhere while so far always remaining with the franchise that drafted him in 2012.

Beal is eligible for a five-year, $245.6 million deal that the Wizards are committed to making.

John Wall Interested In Return To Wizards

Mar 9, 2022 3:45 PM

John Wall is open to a return to the Washington Wizards and has been discussed with people close to him and around the league.

“That … is true,” one NBA source said Tuesday.

Wall was traded by the Wizards to the Houston Rockets before the 20-21 season. Wall hasn't played at all this season and has one season remaining on his deal. The Wizards would only be interested in signing Wall if he's bought out and not on a potential trade.

While Bradley Beal is not advocating for a return of Wall, he wouldn't dismiss it.

Kristaps Porzingis: I'm Excited To Be A Wizard

Mar 7, 2022 9:02 AM

Kristaps Porzingis had a big debut for the Washington Wizards, with 25 points in a win over the Indiana Pacers. Following the game, Porzingis said it felt right to be in Washington.

"From the moment I got here, I just felt comfortable," Porzingis said. "I'm excited to be a Wizard."

Porzingis said he had hoped to make his debut sooner, but that Washington's medical staff wanted to wait until he was fully healthy. The big man played 21 minutes in his debut, operating mostly out of the center position.

The Wizards also said that they haven't given up hope on making a run at the Play-In Tournament. Washington is two games behind the Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets, who are all tied for the 8-10 seeds.

Kristaps Porzingis Poised to Make Wizards Debut On Sunday

Mar 5, 2022 3:15 PM

Washington big man Kristaps Porzingis looks set to make his Wizards debut on Sunday. Porzingis was upgraded to probable for Sunday's game against the Indiana Pacers.

The 7'3'' forward/center has been out with a knee injury since being traded to Washington from the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline. The Wizards traded Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans in the deal to acquire Porzingis.

Porzingis has struggled to stay healthy the past two seasons. He appeared in only 43 games in 2020-21 and this season had played in just 34 games for Dallas before being traded. Washington hopes that Porzingis can help a push for the Play-In Tournament. The Wizards are currently two games behind the Charlotte Hornets with 20 games to play.

Mavericks Sought Goran Dragic, Gary Trent From Raptors For Kristaps Porzingis

Mar 4, 2022 2:09 PM

Before the Dallas Mavericks traded Kristaps Porzingis to the Washington Wizards for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans at the deadline, they attempted to send him to the Toronto Raptors in a deal for Goran Dragic and Gary Trent Jr.

While the Mavericks hoped Porzingis would be a second star to pair with Luka Doncic, it never played out that way on the floor.

"They tried to trade him to Toronto," said Tim MacMahon on The Lowe Post. "My understanding is their discussions there were Dragic and Gary Trent. Toronto understandably said 'We're not giving up Gary Trent Jr.'

"So the Washington thing came together. And the Mavericks basically got to the point of 'Hey, financially it's a wash, but it's two smaller contracts that would be easier to move.' And they felt K.P. was kind of in the way and those two guys could fill roles off the bench, so they pulled the trigger as soon as they found a deal where they didn't have to give up a first round pick. A lot of that was the fit with K.P. wasn't there. It doesn't mean Porzingis necessarily did anything wrong. The Mavericks took a huge swing and a miss on him. It didn't work out.

"Ultimately, I do think there's a ceiling on a one-star team. You have to go all the way back, ironically, to the Dirk Mavericks to find a one-star NBA champion. But you know, if there's a guy who is going to do it, it's a dude like Luka."

Bradley Beal: 'Fair' To Say I'm Leaning Toward Re-Signing With Wizards

Mar 3, 2022 8:49 PM

Bradley Beal has yet to make a decision on his future, but he revealed he's leaning towards re-signing with the Washington Wizards this offseason.

"It's fair," Beal told reporters in Washington on Thursday when asked whether he is leaning toward staying with the Wizards. "It's fair."

Beal is eligible to sign a five-year, $246 million deal with the Wizards if he declines his player option of $36.4 million for 2022-23.

Beal is out for the season following surgery on his left wrist.

Beal believes the injury will allow him to get a feel for Washington's roster from afar.

"As crazy as this sounds, this is a blessing in disguise too," Beal said of his injury. "Because I can see the team, I can see our young guys develop, I can see Coach [Wes Unseld Jr.] continue to develop too. I can see us grow as a team. I don't have to rush to a decision, I don't have to rush to anything."
