Olivier Sarr, Jacob Toppin Eligible For Wildcats This Season

Oct 22, 2020 1:15 AM

Olivier Sarr and Jacob Toppin were granted eligibility to play for the Kentucky Wildcats this season.

Sarr transferred from Wake Forrest, with Toppin a transfer from Rhode Island.

"I'm excited for Olivier and Jacob. Both have worked really hard and deserve this opportunity. They were both hopping and skipping out of my office after getting the news because they've been waiting on this day. I want to thank the NCAA and the SEC for considering the unique circumstances surrounding this season, and we appreciate them working with us throughout this process," said John Calipari.

Sarr, who averaged 13.7 points and 9.0 rebounds last season, was one of the top-ranked transfers of the spring.

Kentucky, which lost 8 out of their top 9 players from last season, will likely move into the top five of ESPN's preseason rankings.

Wichita State Launch Internal Investigation Of Gregg Marshall

Oct 10, 2020 1:30 AM

Wichita State is investigating allegations against the behavior of Gregg Marshall, sources told The Athletic.

The investigation comes after seven players transferred from the team last Spring, with one player notifying the school's administration of Marshall's behavior before transferring.

Several allegations are from the 2015-16 season, including Marshall punching a player in practice and attempting to punch another student-athlete in the parking lot in a separate incident.

“I’m aware the university conducted interviews and I fully participated in the process. I look forward to having it wrapped up as I continue to focus my energy on our team," wrote Marshall in a text to The Athletic.

Addressing the transfers in an interview last April, Marshall said he had difficulty managing personalities.

Marshall is entering his 14th season as Wichita State head coach.

Johnathan Lawson announced his commitment to Oregon on Wednesday.

Lawson is ranked No. 47 in ESPN's Top 100 for the 2021 class.

Lawson chose Oregon over Vanderbilt, Alabama, Arkansas and Iowa State.

"A true facilitator who demonstrates the ability to make others better, Lawson's great positional size, handle and vision allows him to be a dangerous playmaker. When it comes to scoring, he produces from a variety of spots on the floor, which gives him versatility. His outside shot is capable but needs work. His defensive length is also a major plus at this stage of his career," said ESPN national recruiting director Paul Biancardi.

NCAA Suggest College Basketball Players Receive Three COVID-19 Tests Per Week

Sep 27, 2020 1:26 AM

The NCAA released its health and safety guidelines for the upcoming basketball season, suggesting that players and coaches get tested for COVID-19 three times per week.

The NCAA Sport Science Institute partnered with the NCAA COVID-19 Medical Advisory Group to create the guidelines.

"This basketball resocialization guidance is based on the best information available in a rapidly changing COVID-19 environment. It is predicated on the assumption that rapid testing capabilities will be readily available later this year. We will constantly assess emerging information as we prepare for the start of the basketball season at the end of November," said NCAA president Mark Emmert.

Basketball received a "high contact risk sport" classification, with an estimated 25-30 Tier 1 individuals per team.

The guidelines suggest that players and coaches don't need to observe social distancing rules on the bench, though Tier 2 individuals and scorekeepers should observe distancing and mask rules.
