Jordan Makes It Official, Chooses Illinois

Apr 27, 2007 6:40 PM

When it came down to his college decision, Loyola Academy guard Jeff Jordan believes his best basketball is still ahead of him.

That's why Michael Jordan's oldest son announced on Friday that he will attend Illinois as a preferred walk-on, turning down scholarship offers from Loyola and Valparaiso.

"Illinois is a great school with a strong basketball program,'' Jeff Jordan said in a prepared statement released Friday. "I look forward to receiving a great education at Illinois, and I also look forward to proving that I can play and compete at the Big Ten level."

Recruiting analysts had rated Jordan as a mid-major prospect, and he had been recruited by George Washington, Davidson and Illinois State while Northwestern also wanted him as a preferred walk-on.

Jordan's Son To Be A 'Preferred Walk-On' At Illinois

Apr 26, 2007 10:19 PM

Michael Jordan's son, Jeff, is expected to announce he will attend Illinois as a preferred walk-on and enroll for the summer session that begins June 11, a university source said Thursday.

According to the source: "Jeff Jordan has applied and was accepted. All indications are that he will enroll for the summer session. We're expecting he will make the announcement very soon."

At Michael Jordan's "Brand Jordan All-American Classic" in New York last Saturday, Jeff Jordan had nine points, two steals and one assist in holding his own with the top high school players in the country.

"Ever since he returned from that visit to Illinois, that seemed to be the consensus pick," said a close friend of the family. "Michael left him alone to make that choice. It was always whatever Jeff wanted to do.

"I think the key was how well he played at Illinois. He did better than the Illinois coaches expected."

Tennessee guard Chris Lofton, the SEC player of the year, will stay for his senior season.

Lofton said Tuesday he wasn't projected high enough in the upcoming NBA draft to warrant leaving school early.

"I think I knew all along I was coming back anyway," he said during a news conference with coach Bruce Pearl. "It was just a little part of me in my mind of waiting to see how everything shakes out. I'm not surprised by this."

Colo. St. Forward Arrested For Threat On Teammate

Apr 24, 2007 2:11 AM

Colorado State forward Xavier Kilby was arrested after he was accused of pointing a gun at teammate Ronnie Aguilar's head, police said Monday.

The 21-year-old Kilby was arrested on suspicion of felony menacing and prohibited use of weapons, police spokeswoman Rita Davis said. No one was injured.

Police received a report about 2:54 a.m. Sunday of a weapon being discharged at Kilby's apartment, Davis said.

Davis said Kilby pulled out a small revolver after he and Aguilar argued in the living room, pointed the gun at Aguilar's head and then pointed the gun at a couch and discharged the weapon. Davis said teammate Stephan Gilling was in the living room, and two other people were in the apartment at the time, Davis said.

Davis said Aguilar left the apartment after the shooting and went home and called police. Officers arrived at Kilby's apartment and arrested him without incident, Davis said.

Coach Tim Miles issued a statement through the school saying Kilby would not be allowed at team activities until further notice.

Walker On Beasley: 'We Have To Coexist'

Apr 18, 2007 1:09 PM

The rehabilitation of Bill Walker's knee is ahead of schedule and he is looking forward to having a successful season at Kansas State even though Bob Huggins has left the program.

Walker never believed the West Virginia rumors.

?He gave me every indication that he was staying,? Walker said of Huggins.

When he learned Huggins was leaving, Walker became angry. He didn?t hear about it first from Huggins, and that hurt.

?He?s somebody I trusted,? said Walker, who?ll be a sophomore in 2007-08.

Walker admits he unloaded on Huggins once he told the team he was going.

?Just anger,? Walker said. ?I told him what I thought.?

Walker is looking forward to playing with Michael Beasley, one of the top incoming freshman in the country.

?If we?re going to win the national championship, we have to coexist,? Walker said. ?I respect him. I don?t think I?ll have any problem with him. This doesn?t have to be my team. That?s not what?s important.?
