NBA, NBPA Revises Draft Eligibility Rules For U.S.-Based Players In Limbo Between H.S., College

Feb 18, 2020 12:17 PM

Makur Maker will be eligible for the 2020 NBA draft if he applies as an early-entry candidate, according to a memo from the league office to all 30 teams.

The memo also included a revision to the collective bargaining agreement regarding the draft eligibility of players similar to Maker.

In the future, however, U.S.-based players who have not yet graduated high school but otherwise meet the standard criteria of being 19 years old and one NBA season removed from their originally scheduled graduation date will not be eligible for that year's draft.

Because Maker was two credits short of receiving a high school diploma from Orange (California) Lutheran High School, where he was enrolled during the 2018-19 season, he needed to petition the NBA for inclusion by submitting high school transcripts to the league office.

Maker was once ranked in the 30s of the ESPN 100 but now is No. 77 and increasingly likely to attend college next year.

Florida Renames Basketball Court After Billy Donovan

Feb 16, 2020 1:47 PM

Florida renamed their court at the O'Connell Center after former coach Billy Donovan in a halftime presentation on Saturday.

Donovan coached at Florida for 19 years before leaving the school for the Thunder.

"It's just really emotional for me, and I'm really humbled. I've always said this: It takes a lot of people to really contribute and help. Everybody contributed. I'm just thankful that I was around such great people. I think that's what it speaks to is the quality of people that I was fortunate enough to be around here at Florida," said Donovan.

Donovan's signature was placed on both ends of the court.

Donovan went 467-186 at Florida, including winning back-to-back titles in 2006-07.

Feb 15, 2020 12:34 PM

Shareef O'Neal announced that he will be transferring to LSU from UCLA.

"Real big footsteps. But I'm ready for it. Great program. Louisiana is a different scene. I've been in L.A. most of my life, but I'm ready for it," explained O'Neal about following in his father Shaquille's path.

O'Neal, the No. 32 recruit in the ESPN 100 for the class of 2018, averaged 2.2 points and 2.9 rebounds at UCLA.

O'Neal added that Kobe Bryant's death made him refocus on the court.

"[Bryant's death] made me focus more. I feel like it changed my basketball drive to, like, times 10. I'm going to do it for him because I know he would want me to do well."
