NBA, NBPA Won't Lower Minimum Age For Draft As Part Of Next CBA

Mar 31, 2023 4:06 PM

The NBA and NBPA have tabled the possibility of lowering the minimum age to enter the draft as part of its next collective bargaining agreement, which will mean the "one-and-done" rule will continue.

The league wanted to eliminate the rule, but the players wanted to ensure veteran players would be taken care of as part of the change.

NBA owners and executives were largely indifferent or fully against returning to high school gymnasiums to evaluate players, and even less enthusiastic about that idea without concessions from the NBPA on providing increased access to pre-draft player medical information and increased participation in several elements of the draft combine.

The rise of financial opportunities for non-NBA players has softened the NBPA's belief there needed to be an aggressive push for lowering the draft limi

Mar 30, 2023 11:11 AM

Caitlin Clark has been named the AP women's basketball Player of the Year.

Clark received 20 votes from the 28-member national media panel that votes on the AP Top 25 each week.

"It's a huge honor," Clark said. "I picked a place that I perfectly fit into and that's allowed me to show my skill set. I'd be lying if I said it didn't mean something. It's not the reason you play basketball, it's just something that comes along with getting to do what you love."

Aliyah Boston of South Carolina won the award last season and will play Clark's Iowa in the semifinals of the NCAA tournament on Friday in Dallas.

Rodney Terry, Texas Agree To Five-Year Deal To Become Head Coach

Mar 27, 2023 5:21 PM

Rodney Terry has agreed to become head coach of the University of Texas on a five-year deal.

Terry has been the Longhorns' interim head coach since Chris Beard was suspended in December and ultimately fired a month later.

Terry became emotional when asked Sunday about his desire to become the head coach at Texas.

"I haven't really had a lot of time to give a lot of thought to that, to be honest," he said. "I've been so wrapped up and invested in my team. Again, I love these guys. Not only will I just love these guys for the time I got to coach them, I'll love them for the rest of their lives. I'll be at their weddings. I'll be talking to those guys when they have their firstborn.

"It was all about this team, man, and I enjoyed every single day of this journey with this group. I'm going to really miss -- I'm going to really miss working with this group. It was never about me. It was always about these guys. I love these guys."

With Terry at the helm, Texas went 22-8 overall and 12-6 in conference play.
