Mavs' Johnson On Kidd Rumors, 'We're Fine, We Have A Good Team'

Jan 31, 2008 7:29 PM

Avery Johnson tried his hardest to put the clamps on any rumors involving Dallas and newly-available point guard Jason Kidd on Thursday night.

"We are a veteran team; we communicate a lot, and we have no issues with what other teams are trying to do to enhance their teams. Our team - we're fine. We have a good ball club," Johnson said before the Mavericks' game against the Celtics in Boston.

Sources: Kidd To Dallas Proposal Not Dead

Jan 31, 2008 11:38 AM

The feeling among NBA executives that the Mavericks are the most likely winners in the Jason Kidd trade sweepstakes is even stronger now, according to an ESPN.com report.

Reason: within 24 hours of Kidd saying that it's time for him and the Nets "all to move on" in separate directions, New Jersey and Dallas engaged in advanced trade discussions with Portland on a three-way deal that would land Kidd back with the team that drafted him.

Such a trade would involve at least a dozen players, cash, and future draft picks. In a breakdown of the principles, Portland would receive the Mavericks' Devin Harris and possibly Brandon Bass; New Jersey would obtain draft and financial considerations, Dallas' Jerry Stackhouse, and three prospects from Portland (Travis Outlaw, Channing Frye and Jarrett Jack); the Mavericks would land Kidd.

LeBron: I Shouldn't Have To Tell The Front Office To Get Kidd

Jan 31, 2008 9:01 AM

LeBron James broke his silence regarding the Jason Kidd trade rumors on Wednesday night, telling the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he shouldn't have to tell the Cavaliers' organization to make a play for the All-Star point guard.

"When it gets to a point like that, where you see Jason Kidd wants to be traded, you shouldn't have to go to the front office and tell them to get on it," James told the Plain Dealer on Wednesday. "It's Jason Kidd. It's not someone else asking for a trade. It's Jason Kidd. You shouldn't have to go to anybody in the front office for them to be ready to try to jump on it."

Kings Are Willing To Deal Artest

Jan 31, 2008 8:56 AM

The Sacramento Kings are not against trading forward Ron Artest before the NBA's trade deadline, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Both Artest and Kings' President Geoff Petrie spoke about the possibility that the versatile forward's days are numbered in Sacramento earlier this week.

"I've talked to Ron twice in the last two weeks about a lot of different things," Petrie told the Bee on Wednesday night. "The biggest thing for him and everybody else is to keep playing as well as you can. Everybody knows the trading deadline is coming up. Like I've said before, we're not averse to trading anybody if it benefits us in some way and our future, and I think (Artest) is comfortable with that."

Magic Johnson: Knicks Will Make Playoffs

Jan 31, 2008 6:43 AM

Isiah Thomas is not the only person who thinks the Knicks have a shot of making it to the playoffs.  Now Magic Johnson, the guy who the New York Daily News says recommended Thomas to run the Knicks to executive Steve Mills, says that there is no way that New York will miss out on post season action this season.

"They're going to make the playoffs and be a tough seven or eight seed," Johnson said. "They're settling into their roles. There's no way I don't see them not getting in as the seven or eight seed, especially in the East."
