Cavs Could Start Kevin Love At Center

Sep 30, 2017 11:10 PM

The Cleveland Cavaliers are giving strong consideration to starting Kevin Love at center with Tristan Thompson coming off the bench.

Cleveland has been using Jae Crowder at the 4 with the starters during training camp.

"Tristan is a very dynamic roller, guy that plays a lot as a dunker," Love said. "Myself, I have to play inside-out, mix that up and really take what the defense gives you. But it gives us a different look. I mentioned different dynamics out there on the floor with different lineups, and we're so deep now that [Dwyane Wade] and a lot of guys similar in size at that 4-5 spot, we're going to see guys playing interchangeable. It's not just going to be on the defensive end in that regard."

With Kyrie Irving's trade to the Cavaliers, the team will be relying upon Love's offense more this season.

Paul George: Westbrook's Extension 'Absolutely' To Factor In 2018 Decision

Sep 30, 2017 10:35 PM

Paul George has confirmed that the decision of Russell Westbrook to sign an extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder will play "absolutely" play a factor in his own decision next summer.

"We've been on an unbelievable start right now, and for him to be committed here, it says a lot," George said. "Not only in us pairing together, but just knowing what type of dude Russ is and his values and his beliefs and him being committed to this organization says a lot. And I'm one person that's enjoying it here, so I think when that time comes, the decision will be easier to make for myself."

Westbrook signed a five-year, $205 million extension with the Thunder.

"From the commitment from the front office all the way down to Russ, the commitment here is off the charts," George said.

George has been widely linked to the Los Angeles Lakers.

"I had a feeling he wanted to remain a Thunder," George said. "But again, you let guys deal with their situations, and that's what it was. He had to make his decision."

DeAndre Jordan, Clippers Discussing Contract Extension

Sep 30, 2017 10:15 PM

DeAndre Jordan and the Los Angeles Clippers have held several discussions on a contract extension.

While the two sides have discussed an extension, no contract figures have been broached.

“We’ve had discussions, but obviously nothing has gotten done,” Jordan said. “So, we’ll see what happens.”

Jordan has a player option for the 2018-19 season that will pay him $24.1 million. Jordan could re-sign with the Clippers in the summer for as much as $207 million over five years.

Jordan doesn’t have an agent, so he has been negotiating with the Clippers on his own.

NBA Issues Memo On Standing For Anthem

Sep 30, 2017 11:45 AM

The NBA issued a memo to their 30 teams reinforcing its rule that players and coaches must stand for national anthem.

The memo was distributed by deputy commissioner Mark Tatum. It instructs teams that "the league office will determine how to deal with any possible instance in which a player, coach, or trainer does not stand for the anthem."

The memo states that individual teams "do not have the discretion to waive" the rule that players, coaches and staff stand for the anthem.

The league has the discretion to discipline players who violate the rule. It is not clear if the league would exercise it in the event of any protest.

The league also does not want teams independently disciplining players, sources say, and has encouraged open dialogue within teams.

The memo also suggests teams might prepare a video tribute or public service announcement featuring "team leadership speaking about the issues they care about."
