Potential Seattle NHL Ownership Group Interested In NBA Team

Feb 28, 2018 4:40 PM

An ownership group that applied to bring an NHL franchise to Seattle is optimistic they could also bring an NBA team back to the city.

"The answer is absolutely," investment banker David Bonderman told ESPN. "If there is a franchise to be had from the NBA, we want to be up there fighting for it for Seattle."

Bonderman joins longtime sports executive Tim Leiweke and Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer as leads for the Oak View Group, which is hoping to found the NHL's 32nd team.

The OVG plans to break ground on the remodeled Key Arena in downtown Seattle in October, and the hope is to enter the league for the 2020-21 season.

Marc Gasol: This Is The NBA, Not The G League

Feb 28, 2018 4:33 PM

Marc Gasol was asked about his frustration level this season as the Memphis Grizzlies have one of the worst records in the NBA.

"It's pretty high," Gasol said. "It's pretty high."

Gasol was asked whether Wednesday's game against the Suns would be an opportunity to win.

"That'd be ideal just to show guys and give confidence to guys to show them that doing the right thing, it's important. It makes you win games. Winning is what this is about," Gasol said. "It's not about somebody playing well or getting, you know, your reps or developing players. Because we have a league for that. We have a league and a team here in Memphis to develop guys. This is the NBA, not the G League."

Steve Kerr Wanted Ron Adams To Become Warriors' Tex Winter

Feb 28, 2018 11:08 AM

Ron Adams was in his mid-60s when the Warriors hired him away from the Celtics. Steve Kerr wanted Adams to freely speak his mind the way Tex Winter did in the 1990s with Phil Jackson's Bulls.

“I wanted a truth-teller, somebody to tell me, ‘You gotta do this, and you gotta do that,’ completely unfiltered,” Kerr said. “Somebody whose experience and wisdom made everyone stand up and listen. I knew right then that we were talking to the right guy, and I’m just thankful we have him because he’s been instrumental in all that we’ve done.

“Ron Adams, he’s our Tex.”

Adams is known as a curious thinker and reader with strong interests outside of basketball. Adams is eager to talk big ideas such as philosophy, religion, sociology and politics.

Stephen Curry Has Been 'Locked In' Ever Since Kevin Durant's Injury Last Season

Feb 28, 2018 10:43 AM

When the Warriors lost Kevin Durant for several weeks during the second half of last season, Stephen Curry changed his leadership approach by increasing his intensity.

"You just saw him practicing and he started becoming more aggressive," David West recalled to ESPN. "When we were going 5-on-5, he was going 100 miles an hour and everybody is like, 'Oh s---. This m-----f----- is serious.' And that was also at shootaround. He got everybody going. It was during that stretch that he became a little bit more vocal, more demonstrative about the urgency we needed to have to keep the season alive when you lose somebody like KD."

Durant noticed the change in Curry as well.

"Hell yeah, I saw it," Durant said. "As a leader, as one of the best players in the league, you see one of your teammates go down, you feel as though you have to pick up the slack. ... Mentally, he was just locked in and he's been that way ever since. That focus carried us to a title last year."

"I've had to learn when it was time to say something," Curry said. "I wasn't always considered one of the best players on the team. I had to grow into the role of leadership, and in many ways, I'm still growing into it. But I know how to work hard, and I like to let that speak for me."

Curry has tried to emulate the leadership he learned from his coach at Davidson.

"Coach Bob McKillop is the best example of how I always wanted to lead a team," Curry said. "He wasn't loud, but his message and tone was consistent enough that you knew what he stood for and guys followed. He knew when and how to get his point across and that's what I try to do here."

"I think it's how hard he works combined with his humility off the floor," said Steve Kerr. "He's just a decent human being; such a nice player. He's obviously a superstar player, but he acts like he's the 12th man. I can get on him in film sessions and he never seems to mind. He leads by example. He's a great guy, a great teammate and the players respect him. That's what a captain is about."

James Harden: This Is The Year, For Sure

Feb 28, 2018 10:39 AM

James Harden is confident the Houston Rockets will have a special season.

"This is the year. For sure," Harden said when asked about his expectations for the Rockets.

Harden reached The Finals in 2011 with the Thunder but he believes this Rockets team might be superior.

"The front office -- [general manager] Daryl Morey and [CEO] Tad Brown -- those guys did an unbelievable job," Harden said. "From last year, bringing [Eric Gordon] and [Ryan Anderson] over. Then obviously adding [Chris Paul] and [PJ Tucker] and [Luc Mbah a Moute] and then you get [Gerald Green] and Joe Johnson.

"This is probably the best team I've ever been a part of, from top to bottom. The chemistry that we have, included with the coaching staff -- I mean, we're having a lot of fun."
