Kawhi Leonard Returns To New York For Rehab

Mar 31, 2018 3:54 PM

Kawhi Leonard has returned to New York to continue his rehab for his lingering right quad injury under the supervision of outside medical personnel.

Leonard returned to New York on Monday and there's no timetable for his possible return to San Antonio.

The Spurs have six games remaining in the regular season, which limits the odds of Leonard returning.

Leonard has been using the National Basketball Players Association headquarters gymnasium facilities in recent days.

Leonard is eligible for a five-year, $217 million supermax contract extension this summer with the Spurs. Leonard could also become a free agent in 2019.

Leonard left San Antonio in the aftermath of a team meeting on March 17th.

Leonard initially sought treatment within the organization before consulting with a specialist in New York on Jan. 16.

Leonard resumed working out in San Antonio on Feb. 27, and the intensity of his workouts has varied.

Carmelo Anthony Surprised To Sit Entire Fourth Quarter

Mar 31, 2018 11:39 AM

Carmelo Anthony was surprised to be benched for the entire fourth quarter of Oklahoma City's overtime loss to the Nuggets.

"Yeah, of course," Anthony said. "Of course I wanted to be there, but that wasn't my decision to make, so I kind of leave that to coach on that one."

Anthony walked to the scorer's table with three minutes left in the fourth quarter but then sat himself back on the bench when Jerami Grant his a corner three-pointer.

"I was sitting for the whole fourth, and there was like two and some change on the clock," Anthony said. "[Grant] hit that 3, so it was like, just let him continue to go out there and just play it out and see what happens. But then we wind up going to overtime."

Anthony subbed back in to start the overtime period.

"It was kind of a hard thing. I wanted to put Melo back in the game, but I think that unit was playing so well at that particular time. We were on a pretty good run, we were playing good. Jerami made a 3 when I wanted to put Carmelo back in," Billy Donovan said. "Carmelo's always been a team guy. I think he felt like, 'OK, Jerami's playing well, let him go, let him play.'"

Anthony said it's the first time in his career he can remember telling a coach to play someone else that late in a game.

"I think I've done it before, but not that late in the game and in the quarter," he said. "I've done it before where a guy has it going and didn't want to break his rhythm. A lot of times, when guys have it going like that, especially role players guys, bench guys, that gives them confidence, that you do believe in those guys. But not that late in a game like that, never did that."

Kevin Durant Blames Technicals On Desire To Repeat

Mar 31, 2018 9:59 AM

Kevin Durant attempted to explain why he has received more technical fouls this season.

"It's just my emotions and passion for the game," Durant said after Friday's practice session. "After winning that championship (last season), I learned that much hadn't changed. I thought it would fill a certain [void]. It didn't. That's when I realized in the offseason that the only thing that matters is this game and how much work you put into it. Everything else off the court, social media, perception, isn't important. What people say, how they view you, it's not important.

"What we did as a team was special, and I want to experience that again. My love and passion for the game has [blossomed] because I understand that's what it's all about, and I'm pouring all of this [newfound thirst] into this game. But I know I have to keep [my fire] under control, and I will."

Prior to the 2017-18 season getting underway, Durant had only one ejection in his first 10 years in the league. He's up to five this season.

"It's just a part of the evolution that I'm going through," Durant told ESPN. "I'll be the first to admit that I'm not perfect. I don't have all the answers. It will probably take the offseason for me to assess, 'OK, let's figure out how to tone this down a little.' But I'm comfortable sharing this because all I care about is that," he said as he pointed to the practice court.

"I love this game, and I'm going to do whatever I can to help my team get back to where we were last year. That's what I'm excited for. That's why you're seeing this passion from me. Before, I used to care about the game and the lifestyle. Now, all I care about is my love for the game, the pureness of the game. This is me."
