Danilo Gallinari Declines $16.1M Player Option With Nuggets

May 30, 2017 7:14 PM

Danilo Gallinari will decline his $16.1 million player option with the Denver Nuggets for the 17-18 season to become an unrestricted free agent.

Gallinari remains interested in signing a long-term deal with the Nuggets.

Tim Connelly has expressed a strong desire to keep Gallinari as part of the franchise’s core.

After a knee injury and surgery that cost him the 2013-14 season, Gallinari has re-established the durability of his knee in the past two seasons.

Nerlens Noel Could Receive Multiple Max Offers In Free Agency

May 30, 2017 1:51 PM

Nerlens Noel could receive multiple max contract offers in free agency, according to a source.

The Dallas Mavericks traded for Noel at the deadline and hope to keep him in restricted free agency.

A starting salary at the max contract would be approximately $25 million.

The free agent market for centers have been difficult to calibrate as supply has outpaced demand, but Noel is young and a game changer on defense.

Chris Bosh Could Struggle To Find Team To Clear Him

May 30, 2017 12:07 PM

Chris Bosh could have difficulty finding a team to sign with this offseason.

Bosh and the Miami Heat are moving close to a resolution.

While Bosh has remained an effective player, finding a doctor to clear him following his recurring blood clots will be challenging.

"Miami had about $50 million reasons for him to play and could not get a doctor to clear him," the unidentified executive said. "Very unlikely the answer will be different at a team with $0 million reasons for him to play."

Bosh has spoken about his desire to play again, yet has also discussed moving on with his life at the age of 33.

Isaiah Thomas Willing To Defer Extension To Help Boston In Free Agency

May 28, 2017 12:41 AM

Isaiah Thomas is eligible for a contract extension with the Boston Celtics this offseason, but he's okay waiting for free agency if he can help the team improve their roster.

Thomas is set to enter the final year of a four-year, $27 million contract he signed with the Phoenix Suns in 2014.

Thomas is scheduled to make just $6.3 million during the 17-18 season, be a salary less than what the Celtics will pay the No. 1 overall pick ($7 million at 120 percent of the rookie scale).

Thomas has been active in recruiting talent to the Celtics.

"We need the best possible player that's gonna help us win, and I'm with that," Thomas said. "Anything Danny and this organization need me to do to help bring even more talent to this city, I'm all for that. I want to win a championship and being so close to getting to the Finals, that makes you want it that much more.

"I'm all help if they need it. I'll be around."

In the past, Thomas has said the Celtics need to "bring out the Brink's truck" to re-sign him.

Clippers Concerned By Spurs' Possible Pursuit Of Chris Paul

May 26, 2017 12:05 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers can offer Chris Paul an extra guaranteed season and bigger raises than any rival team, but the team still remains concerned about their ability to re-sign him in free agency.

The Clippers are treating the San Antonio Spurs as a serious threat of signing Paul. The Spurs don't currently have enough cap space to sign Paul to a max contract, but they could conceivably clear room.

The Spurs' point guard situation is uncertain with Tony Parker having one more season left on his contract and coming off a left leg injury while Patty Mills is an unrestricted free agent.

In addition to Paul, the Clippers also have Blake Griffin and J.J. Redick hitting free agency.

Bulls Expect Dwyane Wade To Exercise $23.8M Player Option

May 25, 2017 10:38 AM

Dwyane Wade has yet to formally make a decision on his $23.8 million player option with the Chicago Bulls for the 17-18 season.

Wade is unlikely to command that type of salary on the open market this offseason.

"All I can tell you is most everyone associated with the Bulls believes Wade will pick up the option and remain in Chicago for a second season," wrote K.C. Johnson. "More surprising things have happened in league history, though. So stay tuned."

Wade has an inconsistent first season with the Bulls, as did the team as a whole.

Chris Bosh, Heat, NBPA Reach Resolution

May 24, 2017 4:44 PM

Chris Bosh, the Miami Heat and the players' association have tentatively agreed to a resolution that would allow all parties to move on.

The sides have been discussing a resolution to Bosh's situation since last fall.

Bosh is guaranteed $52 million over the next two seasons, though a significant portion of that is covered by insurance. Bosh has remained on Miami's salary cap, which has limited their ability to replace him.

The Heat will end up with between $14 million and $37 million in cap room, depending on player options, team options and waivers decisions.

A special agreement has been necessary since the NBA is between two collective bargaining agreements.

Under the new CBA, a panel of doctors selected by the league and the association would determine whether a player with a potentially life-threatening medical condition would be cleared to play.

Chris Paul, Spurs Believed To Have Mutual Interest

May 24, 2017 1:16 PM

Chris Paul is widely expected to re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason in free agency, but the San Antonio Spurs are lurking as a potential destination.

“I know they’re concerned about their point guard position," said Zach Lowe on The Lowe Post podcast. "Dejounte Murray looks good, but he’s not ready yet."

"They need a bridge there, right?" said Kevin Arnovitz. "They need a little bit of a bridge between (Tony) Parker and Murray."

"Maybe Mills is the bridge but Mills is about to get expensive and I think we saw in this series that he's just not a drive and kick guy. That's just who he is. Patty Mills is great for what he is.

"I know there's been a lot of rumblings about Chris Paul, and I think that's real. I think there's mutual interest there. I don't know how real it is given that the Clippers can offer a gigantic amount of money and are also a really good team. The Spurs, like I said, have no sort of cap flexibility to get there. I'm very curious about what they do this summer and who's on the team next year. And maybe rolling it back is all they can end up doing."
