Blake Griffin To Agree Upon Five-Year, $173M Contract With Clippers

Jul 1, 2017 2:44 AM

Blake Griffin has agreed upon a five-year, $173 million contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Griffin canceled meetings with the Phoenix Suns and Denver Nuggets.

Griffin did not receive a no-trade clause as part of the deal.

Griffin met with Steve Ballmer, Doc Rivers, Jerry West and several of his teammates on Friday at Staples Center.

At the end of the two-hour meeting, Griffin rose and said "I want my legacy to be a Clipper."

The Clippers prevented Griffin from being tempted by a rival team.

"We've had some great meetings with them and love the direction of the organization," a source close to Griffin told ESPN's Royce Young. "Feel that the best chance to win is definitely with LAC."

Wolves Could Quickly Agree To Deal With Jeff Teague

Jun 30, 2017 8:05 PM

The Minnesota Timberwolves will pursue Jeff Teague in free agency and at least one rival team believes he's already committed to signing.

According to sources, the New York Knicks are no longer pursuing Teague in free agency as they're convinced he's already committed to the Wolves.

The Wolves traded away Ricky Rubio to the Utah Jazz and the widely reported expectation is they have a commitment from a free agent point guard.

The Indiana Pacers traded for Teague last June while giving up fellow expiring contract George Hill.

John Wall Will Delay Decision On Wizards' DVPE Offer

Jun 30, 2017 7:28 PM

The Washington Wizards will offer John Wall a Designated Veteran Player Extension that would begin in 2019 and add four years on his deal.

Wall's extension over four years could be worth $168 million.

Wall will wait to agree upon the extension until he sees what the Wizards do in free agency.

“I just want to kind of see what they do throughout free agency, talk to my family, talk to my agency and my managers and see what we want to do,” Wall told The Washington Post after walking the red carpet Monday night. “It’s definitely a place I want to be … I’ve just got to make sure things are going in the right direction, and make sure we are building the team in the way we want to be, and don’t get locked up in a situation where you might not feel comfortable.

“But I love being in Washington, I love playing there, and there’s not another city I’d really want to play for.”

The Wizards are one of only three teams in the NBA that has never paid the tax.

Washington has a key decision to make this offseason on Otto Porter Jr.

Knicks Unlikely To Re-Sign Derrick Rose

Jun 30, 2017 5:21 PM

The New York Knicks are unlikely to re-sign Derrick Rose in free agency.

Rose's season ended with another torn meniscus and that followed inconsistent play. The Knicks also drafted Frank Ntilikina to be their point guard of the future.

Asked Friday about re-signing Rose, Jeff Hornacek punted the subject.

“That’s management. I haven’t been in any of the discussions with free agency stuff,” he said. “So they kind of control that and look at the roster and figure it out.”

New York traded for Rose last June from the Chicago Bulls..
