Mavericks Expected To Be Patient In Offseason, Wait For 2021

Aug 31, 2020 5:08 PM

The Dallas Mavericks are unlikely to make major changes this offseason as they keep their salary cap space maximized for 2021, according to sources that spoke with Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

That line of thinking will especially be the case if Tim Hardaway Jr. picks up his $19 million player option as anticipated.

The Mavericks ranked 18th in the NBA in defensive efficiency during the season and that will need to balance out with their excellent offense to take the next step.

"My goal at the start of every season is to win a championship," Luka Doncic, who won titles with Real Madrid and the Slovenian national team, said Sunday. "There's no other hope."

Pacers Believe Victor Oladipo Wants To Remain With Franchise

Aug 31, 2020 5:11 PM

Victor Oladipo will be an unrestricted free agent in 2021 and his future with the Indiana Pacers is uncertain. Oladipo and the Pacers briefly discussed a contract extension before the start of the 19-20 season.

"My goal is to have a direct relationship with Victor," said Kevin Pritchard. "Sometimes you have to just sit in front of someone, have a conversation, ask the tough questions, be open and honest. I have not heard anything other than he wants to be here."

J. Michael of the Indianapolis Star, however, indicates Oladipo "has been leaning the other way (leaving the Pacers) since July. Who knows what happens/changes btw then vs now."

Oladipo was an All-Star in 2018 and 2019 before suffering a ruptured quad tendon in his right knee in January 2019.

Pritchard continues to like the backcourt combination of Oladipo and Malcolm Brogdon.

"When you look at it on paper, it fits," said Pritchard  "You have two attacking guards who both can make plays for other people. ... We put a lot of load on Malcolm this year. His usage rates were (off) the chart."

Pistons, Knicks, Suns To Pursue Fred VanVleet In Free Agency

Aug 24, 2020 10:46 AM

Fred VanVleet is expected to be one of the NBA's most coveted free agents this offseason. VanVleet re-signed with the Toronto Raptors in 2018 on a two-year, $18 million deal as a restricted free agent. VanVleet will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Sources that spoke with Shams Charania of The Athletic indicated that the Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks and Phoenix Suns are expected to pursue VanVleet in addition to Toronto.

Bobby Marks of ESPN reported in December that VanVleet could command $25 million to $30 million per season in free agency.

VanVleet averaged a career high 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 1.9 steals in 35.7 minutes per game.

Nets Consider Re-Signing Joe Harris 'Priority Number One'

Aug 13, 2020 11:34 PM

The Brooklyn Nets will prioritize re-signing Joe Harris this offseason even as many have speculated that acquiring a third star will be the most important order of business to the front office.

“Priority number one,” Sean Marks said. “It’s that simple, yeah.”

Harris has become one of the NBA's best three-point shooters.

Harris signed a two-year, $16 million deal in 2018 and could double his salary in free agency. The Nets could go over the cap to re-sign Harris.

Darren Collison Denies Seriously Considering Return To NBA

Aug 4, 2020 8:49 PM

Darren Collison revealed that he never seriously considered coming out of retirement to sign with either the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers.

“To keep it 100, they overhyped the whole thing. Like, I wasn’t even thinking about coming back," Collison said on the Minute Til 6 podcast.

Collison retired during the 2019 offseason citing religious reasons.

"While I still love basketball, I know there is something more important, which is my family and my faith," Collison wrote for The Undefeated at the time. "I am one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and my faith means everything to me. I receive so much joy from volunteering to help others and participate in a worldwide ministry. The joy I feel is unmatched."
