Jan 28, 2021 3:04 PM

The Brooklyn Nets have signed free agent center Norvel Pelle.

Pelle (6’10”, 231) spent the 2019-20 season with the Philadelphia 76ers, originally signing a two-way contract with the team on July 2, 2019, before having his contract converted to a standard deal on Feb. 7, 2020. In 24 games off the bench, Pelle recorded averages of 2.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 9.7 minutes per game. He registered multiple blocks in 11 of the 24 games he saw action in, including a season-high four blocks on Nov. 29, 2019, at New York. He also appeared in one playoff game for the Sixers in their first round playoff series against Boston.

Prior to his NBA career, the 27-year-old played professionally for six years (2013-19), competing overseas in Italy, Lebanon and Taiwan and in the NBA G League in four stints with the Delaware Blue Coats.

Victor Oladipo Still Prefers To End Up With Heat

Jan 14, 2021 11:30 AM

Victor Oladipo was traded by the Indiana Pacers to the Houston Rockets for Caris LeVert as part of the broader James Harden trade.

Oladipo will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and sources tell Kevin O'Connor of The Ringer that he still hopes to eventually end up with the Miami Heat.

Oladipo had reportedly wanted a trade from the Pacers for some time.

Houston could still trade Oladipo before the trade deadline.

Kyrie Irving Considered 'Alpha' Of Friend Group With Kevin Durant, DeAndre Jordan

Jan 14, 2021 11:06 AM

Kyrie Irving's commitment to the Brooklyn Nets is unclear as he remains on a personal leave, but he was reportedly the driving factor in convincing Kevin Durant and DeAndre Jordan to sign with the franchise during their 2019 free agency.

"I thin what's amazing about where Kevin Durants fits in is Kevin Durant went to Brooklyn in this sort of grand scheme with Kyrie Irving and DeAndre Jordan," said Ramona Shelburne on the ESPN Daily podcast. "Those are the three super friends from Team USA. They were down on the cruise boat down there in Brazil.

"If you understand their relationship, Kevin Durant is really focused on basketball. He's like a hoophead. He just loves to play. Kyrie Irving is the alpha of that group, of that friend group.

"When they were choosing where to play, I think Kyrie took the lead. Kyrie wanted to go to Brooklyn. He talked DeAndre and Kevin into it.

"So if you're Kevin Durant right now, how do you feel about that? The guy who got you there is sort of M.I.A. We don't know what's going on with him. Now you have a chance to play with your old buddy James Harden."

Durant and Harden worked out together in Los Angeles before the start of the season and began discussing playing together with the Nets.

"Even when they were talking about it this summer, the conversations were pretty extensive. It was mapping out how the trades would even get done."

Brooklyn, like Philadelphia with Daryl Morey, had a confidence in knowing what they were getting in Harden due to his connections with Durant as well as Mike D'Antoni.

Knicks, Cavaliers, Mavericks Interested In Signing Talen Horton-Tucker

Jan 12, 2021 10:41 AM

Talen Horton-Tucker is expected to receive interest from "multiple teams" in free agency with the New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks specifically mentioned.

The Lakers can give Horton-Tucker a contract starting around $10.5 million while rival teams will be limited by the mid-level exception starting at approximately $9 million. A quirk in the cap, however, can allow for a third-year balloon payment worth as much as the maximum salary with a raise in the fourth. A rival team could pay Horton-Tucker $9 million in the first year, $10 million in the second year then jump to more than $32 million in the third year and $32 million in the fourth. The Lakers could match the deal.

“The way the rules are, I don’t see the Lakers letting him go,” one general manager told Heavy.com. “But teams can make this a more difficult decision for the Lakers than they’d like. Teams that have a lot of cap space and are looking to gamble on a young guy, why not put your money into him? The upside is obvious.”
