Warriors Have Iguodala On Radar

Jan 31, 2011 1:18 PM

The Warriors have more than $17 million in expiring contracts and if they make a move it would likely be for a small forward.

Andre Iguodala has been on the radar of the Warriors for a while, according to team sources.

"If Dorell Wright is coming off the bench," one team source said, "we're a really good team. That would solve two problems. It would give us the upgrade in talent, and it would bolster our bench significantly."

Iguodala is signed through the 13-14 season.

Nuggets, Carmelo Ready For Circus In New Jersey

Jan 31, 2011 6:08 AM

The Nuggets and All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony will be in New Jersey to face the Nets on Monday night, which is sure to draw a media firestorm.

It's the team's first trip since Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov nixed a potential blockbuster deal that would've brought Anthony to New Jersey.

"I really don't know what to expect," the forward said Sunday. "I know me, personally, I'm just looking forward to going there and getting a win."

Denver coach George Karl says he doesn't know how the fans will react to Anthony when he hits the court.

"I expect it to be a pre-game intensity to the game, and then I'm sure there will be some antics during the game that will have to be understood and handled," Karl said.

"I would say for most of the time, those things usually motivate my team to play more focused and serious. If we have to play an intense playoff-type style game against a team like New Jersey, I think we're capable of doing that."

Anthony: Blame Nets, Not Me For Trade Falling Apart

Jan 30, 2011 10:10 AM

Carmelo Anthony has reiterated that it was the Nets that pulled the plug on a potential blockbuster trade that would have sent him to New Jersey.

"I really don't know what is their mind-set. I really don't know if they can come back, if they're willing to come back and say, 'Let's have a meeting,' or they're still interested," Anthony said Saturday. "Everything has died down."

Asked if he was saying that the Nets were still an option, Anthony said, "No. What I'm saying is they said they're out of this whole Melo-Drama."

Anthony also hinted that winning isn't the only factor in his decision on signing a contract extension.

"My decision on whether to stay or whether to leave is based on a lot of things," he said. "A lot of things come into consideration. That's my own things and thoughts that go through my head and things that I talk about with the team, with the front office, with my team. That's stuff that I pretty much keep in house with my rhyme and reason and the method to all the madness."

Little Trade Interest In Hamilton

Jan 30, 2011 10:05 AM

There has been little trade interest in Richard Hamilton, who hasn't suited up for the Pistons since Jan. 10.

Detroit was hoping to send Hamilton to New Jersey as part of the Carmelo Anthony trade that fell apart earlier this month.

Teams like Boston and Dallas appear interested in Hamilton, but only if his contract is bought out.

The guard has two years and $25 million -- $21.5 million guaranteed -- remaining on his contract.

Dallas Still Considers Beaubois Nearly Untradeable

Jan 29, 2011 8:36 PM

Even though Roddy Beaubois hasn't played this season, the Mavericks will not be making him available in trade talks for players short of a superstar in his prime.

"With a few exceptions," said Mark Cuban when asked about Beaubois' inclusion in potential trades.

In other words, Beaubois will not be traded unless it is for Carmelo Anthony.

Cuban was asked what type of player would need to become available for Beaubois to be included.

"Basically, there's a month to go all over the map," Cuban said. "You can fall in and out of love with multiple players in a month."

Stephen Curry Was Surprised To Hear His Name In Trade Rumors

Jan 29, 2011 6:15 PM

Warriors guard Stephen Curry was surprised to hear his name come up in trade rumors after owner Joe Lacob told the San Jose Mercury News he would be willing to break up the team's backcourt.

"It was the first time that I had my name associated with the word 'trade' in the same sentence," Curry told Yahoo! Sports. "It's a little bit of a shock; I can't lie about that. I feel like I'm working hard to get better every day and doing what they ask me to do."

Curry said he received an apologetic text message from Lacob the morning after the interview. Golden State general manager Larry Riley also called Curry, his father and his agent to calm the situation.

Lacob said this week that both Curry and Monta Ellis would be Warriors "for a very long time" and Curry agrees.

"I think optimistically about everything," he said. "I like it here. I like my teammates and everything about the Warriors organization. I can't picture being anywhere else, especially this early in my career."

Jazz Front Office Not Panicking, But Engaged In Trade Talks

Jan 29, 2011 4:22 PM

The Jazz aren't going to hit the panic button despite their recent slump.

Utah hasn't lost six straight games since December 2007, but general manager Kevin O'Connor said the front office is not planning to make personnel changes.

"You try to analyze the whole season. You try to analyze 45 games, not just where we're at over the last six games," O'Connor said. "You certainly look at indicators and you always try and improve your team."

O'Connor admitted the Jazz are constantly engaged in talks with other teams, but said that has more to do with the impending trade deadline.

"It doesn't speed up any process about looking to make changes," O'Connor said. "It doesn't slow down any process about making changes. It's just part of the overall picture."

Big Changes On The Way For Trail Blazers

Jan 29, 2011 10:57 AM

Trail Blazers general manager Rich Cho says big changes are on the way for his team.

"I'd say the chances are pretty good," Cho said of making a deal prior to the Feb. 24 trade deadline. "We are being pretty active, put it that way."

When Cho has hired last summer, he declared Portland "one or two pieces" away from contending for an NBA title.

Thanks to injuries and inconsistency, the Blazers are 25-22 and clinging to the Western Conference's final playoff spot.

"This team is an average to a little-above average team, and our record reflects that," the GM said. "And there's not going to be any quick fix to make it into a championship team. This is going to be a process."

Sarver Doesn't Expect Nash Trade

Jan 28, 2011 12:51 PM

Responding to speculation, owner Robert Sarver doesn't expect the Suns to trade Steve Nash.

“At this point, Steve is still playing at a very high level and is a very important part of the franchise,” Sarver said. “I don’t see us making a trade (with) him this year. I just don’t see it.

“The two main reasons for why I’d like to see Steve stay here is he’s still the best player and most important player on the team and, in addition, we’ve got a lot history together. That means something.”
