Hornets Waiting For New CBA To Gauge Paul's Future

Feb 27, 2011 7:12 PM

The Hornets will wait for the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement before they assess Chris Paul's future with the team.

"I think with Chris, until there is a new agreement with the players association, I think it's difficult to say what's going to tactically work," New Orleans president Hugh Weber said. "It may be a totally different landscape."

The Hornets cannot begin extension discussions with Paul until this summer. However, if a lockout occurs, no discussions can start until a labor agreement is reached.

Clippers Expect Cavs Trade To Be Official Sunday

Feb 27, 2011 11:58 AM

The Clippers expect their acquisition of Maurice Williams and Jamario Moon from the Cavaliers for Baron Davis and a first-round pick to become official on Sunday.

There has been a delay in Davis taking and passing his physical.

The trade must be completed by 5 p.m. ET on Sunday. Williams and Moon have both passed their physicals, but they have been held out of games.

Davis didn't arrive in Cleveland until Saturday afternoon. He immediately took his physical and had an MRI on his troublesome knee.

"They're doing their due diligence on him from a physical standpoint, and we'll hear something [Sunday]," L.A. general manager Neil Olshey said.

"I'm not concerned because we had a goal and we met it, they had a goal and they met it, and they were well aware of the variables on Thursday when they made a decision to move Mo for Baron. None of that has changed."

Boston's Core Likely Wasn't Consulted Ahead Of Perkins' Trade

Feb 26, 2011 6:48 PM

A report from Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald suggested Danny Ainge consulted with the Celtics' stars before trading Kendrick Perkins for a package that included Jeff Green.

"I don't buy that," said Marc J. Spears of Yahoo!.

Spears formerly covered the Celtics before becoming a national writer for Yahoo! and is considered one of the most plugged in reporters in the NBA.

Spears rhetorically asked why Kevin Garnett was crying following the trade if he was previously consulted about a potential Perkins' trade.

Mayo Has No Hard Feelings, Glad Indy Trade Fell Through

Feb 26, 2011 10:17 AM

O.J. Mayo insists he isn't bitter after the Grizzlies nearly dealt him to the Pacers prior to Thursday's NBA trade deadline.

"We're still married and I'm happy to be here," Mayo said. "I think I belong here. It's my job to prove that I need to be here."

Memphis had agreed to send Mayo to Indiana for Josh McRoberts and a first-round pick, but New Orleans pulled out of the deal at the last minute. They were to take Indiana's Brandon Rush in the deal.

"I'm happy that it's all over. At least I know I'll be here all the way through the end of the season," Mayo said. "You can't control what goes on in this business other than going out there and giving 120 percent. That's what you can control."

Feb 25, 2011 4:21 PM

The Nets offered Devin Harris, Troy Murphy and the 2012 first round pick of Houston's for Greg Oden, Andre Miller and Joel Przybilla, according to the report.

Portland declined that offer and countered with the request of Golden State's 2012 first round pick, which is top-seven protected.

The Nets instead ended up acquiring Deron Williams.

Bulls Offered Three Picks, Brewer For Mayo

Feb 25, 2011 2:31 PM

The Bulls strongly pursued O.J. Mayo, offering Ronnie Brewer, two first-round picks and a second-rounder to the Grizzlies, according to sources.

Memphis turned down the offer, instead going deep in talks with the Pacers on a three-team deal that would have netted them Josh McRoberts and a first-round pick.

There's a longstanding theory that Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley, who has a home in the St. Charles area, doesn't like doing business with the Bulls for competitive reasons, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Free Agency At Heart Of Boston's Decision To Trade Perkins

Feb 25, 2011 6:39 AM

The Celtics completed a surprising trade on Thursday when they sent center Kendrick Perkins to the Thunder for a package that included Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic.

The move left Boston somewhat depleted in the paint due to current injuries, but the move was one that executive Danny Ainge felt he needed to make for the long-term.

Perkins, who will become a free agent soon, was going to ask for roughly $10 annually, not a price Boston was going to pay for a center coming off major knee surgery. The Celtics offered Perkins four years and $22 million, but he was looking for about double that.

The move was similar from Oklahoma City's angle as well, as they may not have had the cap space or willingness to give Green the deal he'd desire.

Warriors Tried To Get Perkins

Feb 24, 2011 6:28 PM

The Warriors attempted to make a trade for Kendrick Perkins, who was dealt to the Thunder in a deal for Jeff Green.

Golden State has been searching for a center and had expiring contracts to offer, but very little in terms of talent teams would want to acquire.

General manager Larry Riley said the Perkins to Oklahoma City trade was the only one he was surprised by.

Hornets Pulled Out Of Mayo Three-Way

Feb 24, 2011 4:47 PM

The Pacers, Hornets and Grizzlies were very close to finishing a three-team trade involving O.J. Mayo, Brandon Rush and Josh McRoberts with the call logged at 3:01 PM EST, but the Hornets reportedly pulled out.

The Hornets are currently owned by the NBA.

Memphis would have received McRoberts and a first round pick from Indiana.

New Orleans was going to acquire Rush.

A source confirmed to RealGM's Andrew Perna that timing wasn't the issue with the deal, but rather an agreement couldn't be reached.
