West Believes Golden State Needs Changes To Roster But Big Trade Isn't Necessary

May 25, 2011 4:07 AM

This offseason, the Warriors have hired a new assistant general manager in Bob Myers and an advisor in Jerry West.

West was asked on Tuesday if he believes changes are necessary in order to improve the roster.

"I do think there's changes that need to be made here, I really do. And I know they do, in talking with them.

"And there's a lot of ways to make changes. You don't necessarily have to trade players sometimes, and you can sign free agents. And they have the ability to sign a free agent."

West was asked if the Warriors already have a great player.

"I think greatness is measured over a period of time. They'll take players and anoint them at a very early age. I always say you shouldn't judge a rookie until after his third year to see if he grows.

"I look at (Stephen Curry), for instance, I see tremendous growth in him as a player. Tremendous growth. But there's still more room for improvement and that improvement will come through experience.

"Monta Ellis, a fierce competitor. He competes his fanny off every night. Love to watch him to play. But to me, size helps. Size helps."

Bobcats Could Package Multiple First Round Picks

May 15, 2011 3:42 PM

If the Bobcats are unable to up in the draft lottery, Rod Higgins said he's open to exploring trade possibilities.

Charlotte could trade Nos. 9 and 19 in order to move up in the draft, or they could also acquire a young veteran.

"Depending on the specifics, you'd always have to think about that," Higgins said. "Say, at No. 19 we are not seeing players who we think can help us. And there was a (veteran) available who'd be in our top seven or eight. You'd have to consider that."

Because the Bobcats didn't exercise a first round pick in 2010, they will need to in 2011.

Report: Sixers Will Look To Trade Iguodala

May 8, 2011 12:52 PM

The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to attempt to trade Andre Iguodala this summer, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Kate Fagan.

Iguodala was non-committal when asked about playing for the Sixers next season.

"I expect to be back in the NBA," Iguodala said after the team's season-ending loss to the Miami Heat in the NBA playoffs. "It's always been a dream of mine to play ball. This has been a great ride so far, not just with the Sixers, just playing basketball in general. I'm really looking forward to getting some rest this summer, just letting my body recuperate and get back to 100 percent, and I'm really looking forward to next year being my best year in the league."

Iguodala has three years and $56 million remaining on his contract.

Kings Hope To Be More Active In Free Agency, Trades

May 2, 2011 5:29 AM

The Kings have cap space this offseason and Geoff Petrie hopes to be able to use it as he has been largely reliant on the draft in recent seasons. The collective bargaining agreement, however, will be a factor.

"That's going to play a factor, but I think for us to start building additional value with the roster, basically for the last two or three years, we've tried to draft it," said Petrie. "But for us to accelerate building value in the roster, we have to come out of hibernation in competing for free agents and trade for value … I think at some point that has to happen, and hopefully coming out of this next offseason, we'll get back to being able to do some of those things."

Petrie was asked where the Kings will look to improve.

"I think we need another creator, ballhandler. We need some more leadership on the court, either by the form of maturity or addition to the roster. Certainly we need to try to improve our three-point shooting, which fell off from a year ago. … We'll have to look to fill out our roster with another frontcourt player of some kind."
