Source: Garnett To Clippers Trade Was 'Closer To Happening Than People Think'

Feb 26, 2013 2:55 PM

A possible trade sending Kevin Garnett from the Boston Celtics to the Los Angeles Clippers for Eric Bledsoe and DeAndre Jordan was "closer to happening than people think," according to an NBA source.

Garnett, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, repeatedly stated in the weeks leading up last Thursday's trade deadline that he wants to retire as a Celtic.

Chris Paul reportedly asked Garnett if he wanted to come to the Clippers and that he had the power to make it happen.

Clippers, Wizards Had Butler For Ariza Trade Agreed Upon

Feb 25, 2013 12:46 PM

The Los Angeles Clippers and Washington Wizards had an agreement in principle on the eve of the deadline involving a trade of Caron Butler for Trevor Ariza, according to sources.

Donald Sterling rejected the trade a few hours before the deadline in fear of ruining the team's chemistry.

Butler continues to have a home in the Washington D.C. area, while Ariza would have given the Clippers a wing defender with length.

Hornets Encouraged By Trade Interest In Core Players

Feb 22, 2013 5:01 PM

The New Orleans Hornets didn't make a trade this week, but Dell Demps was encouraged by the interest rival teams expressed in his players.

“I usually don’t like to talk about actual trade details but what I will say is we got a call on a number of guys but we really like our core, we like our young group and we want to see them grow,” Demps said on Friday. “It’s a good sign when players call on your team, it means they have value but we like our young group right now. It will be interesting to see how we finish out the season.”

Eric Gordon was mentioned in several trade rumors leading up to the deadline.

DeJuan Blair's Agent Disappointed With No Trade

Feb 22, 2013 4:51 PM

DeJuan Blair has been on the San Antonio Spurs' trading block for the past year, and he and his agent expected the forward to be traded by Thursday's deadline.

Ultimately, the Spurs could not find a suitable deal for Blair and kept him -- which was disappointing for Blair's camp.

"Obviously I am disappointed that we were not able to get a trade done but I trust Pop and RC and I know they tried their best and have DeJuan and the Spurs best interests at heart," agent Happy Walters said. "When Pop needs Dejuan, he'll be ready to contribute as he always has been."

Nuggets Opt For Continuity At Trade Deadline

Feb 21, 2013 9:50 PM

The Denver Nuggets opted for continuity at the NBA trade deadline.

“I know last two years, we've been accustomed to being the team that's always in there (making deals),” Nuggets general manager Masai Ujiri said. “We're the third-youngest team in the NBA. We feel like these guys are growing. We feel like from the beginning of the season to now, we've made some progress.

“We're excited for this last part of the season. We'll go from there and deal with other issues in the summer.”

George Karl identified shooting as a void.

The Nuggets are tied for sixth in offensive efficiency, yet they rank last in free-throw shooting percentage (68.8) and 25th in three-point accuracy (34.4).

“I don't think there's any question that shooting the ball is something that we have to examine somewhere along the way,” Karl said. “A lot of the formulas we study say if we shot the ball better, we'd be tremendously efficient.”

No All-Star Traded At Deadline For First Time Since 2007

Feb 21, 2013 4:45 PM

The NBA trade deadline came and went without a career All-Star selection being traded for the first time since 2007.

J.J. Redick was the biggest name player dealt at the deadline, going to the Milwaukee Bucks in a six-player trade.

Thomas Robinson, the fifth overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, was traded to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday.

Josh Smith, one of the NBA's best players without a career All-Star selection, had been rumored to be traded for weeks but was held by the Atlanta Hawks.

Gerald Wallace, an All-Star in 2010, was traded last season. The 2011 deadline saw All-Stars in Carmelo Anthony, Deron Williams and Chauncey Billups traded.

Many blamed the NBA's new collective bargaining agreement for the lack of activity as teams have avoided taking on long-term money in fear of the luxury tax.
