Kemba Walker Tired Of Not Being In Playoffs

Mar 27, 2018 10:46 AM

Kemba Walker's future with the Charlotte Hornets is uncertain as he's one offseason away from becoming a free agent and the franchise will again miss the playoffs.

“At this point, I want to win. I want to be in the playoffs,” Walker told the Observer on Monday morning. “I’m tired of not being in the playoffs. ... I hate watching them on TV.

“I’ve been there twice in seven years, and it’s just not fun” missing out.

Walker is building his dream house in Charlotte.

“Hopefully, I’ll be here for a long time.”

The Hornets will hire a new general manager this offseason and the most critical and immediate decision will be what to do with Walker.

“Whenever we get a new GM, we’ll see what direction he wants to go,” Walker said, “and I’ll make the best decision for me.”

Knicks Likely To Stretch Joakim Noah After Sept. 1st

Mar 20, 2018 12:48 PM

Jeff Hornacek was asked on Monday about the status of Joakim Noah and when his situation may be resolved.

“I’m not sure,” Hornacek said. “In the summer, Scott [Perry, the general manager] and Steve [Mills, the team president] will be talking with him. I guess that’s how it will get resolved.”

The Knicks attempted to trade Noah at the deadline after his confrontation during a January practice with Hornacek.

New York is most likely to stretch and waive Noah after September 1st to create additional 2019 cap space if they're unable to trade him in July. Noah is signed through 19-20 and stretching him at that point would spread that season's salary of $19.3 million over three years.

Joe Lacob: We'll Build Around Core Until We Decide Maybe We Shouldn't

Mar 19, 2018 4:13 PM

Joe Lacob said he discusses contingency plans for endless best- and worst-case scenarios “every day” for the Warriors.

The Warriors have looked to the Spurs for how to build a sustainable title contender.

“They’re a great role model for how to sustain it, but I have no idea where we’ll be in five or 10 years,” Bob Myers told The Bay Area News Group. “I’m not sure they knew where they would be. But all you can do is work.”

“If we want to do what the Spurs have done, we’re going to have to find a way to bridge to the next era,” Steve Kerr told The Bay Area News Group. “I don’t know when that is, but this isn’t going to last forever.”

As good as Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are now, he realizes that the prime of players is always a fleeting thing.

“Steph is not going to play like this forever. KD is not going to be KD forever,” Kerr said. “How do we build that bridge through personnel and through continuity? I also have to do a great job with my coaching, so hopefully I’ll be a part of that bridge. If I don’t do a good job of coaching, I won’t be. But I know I have the faith of Joe, Peter (Guber) and Bob, and I have the faith in them. I think we have the structure in place to really remain competitive and stable.”

“He’s proven that it’s not about the money or the luxury tax. One thing I know about Joe is he wants to win,” Green said. “He wants to win every game. Up to this point, he’s proven that. Obviously there’s decisions coming up in the next couple of years that have to be made. So we’ll see what happens.”

Green and Thompson will be free agents in upcoming seasons.

“We’ll build around that core until we decide maybe we shouldn’t. But right now it feels pretty good,” Lacob said. “These guys are all performing at a great level. We love them as part of our organization. I don’t really see doing anything major. But you never really know. We have to evaluate when the season is over. It’s very hard when you’re in the middle of it all to see it objectively.”

Lacob floated the possibility of the Warriors make a major move that shakes up their roster.

“Maybe we will emphasize continuity. Or maybe we will make a big move,” Lacob said. “We’re looking at different options, given different things playing out in different ways. I think you should always be doing that.”

There have been reports in the media that the Warriors have internally discussed the possibility of trading for Anthony Davis.

Isaiah Thomas Didn't Impress Cavs' Teammates

Mar 11, 2018 5:54 PM

Isaiah Thomas didn't impress LeBron James or other players on the team either on or off the court.

"I'm all for an underdog story, but you usually expect some humility to be a part of that story," said one team source.

Thomas was brash with his comments about his own play and also his teammates and coaches.

"I think there's probably a lot of 'what ifs' with him," Cavs guard Kyle Korver said to ESPN when asked about Thomas in L.A. this weekend. "If he had been healthy, if he had been able to have a training camp and start from the beginning of the season, there's no question he's a dynamic guard. When he's healthy, he's a problem. He's someone who can take a big chunk of the scoring load.

"But the way that it all played out, with him coming back so late in the season and trying to find his rhythm, it just didn't work. The fit wasn't there. That's not a knock on anybody. I think if you go across the NBA, for everyone outside of a few superstar players, the fit really matters. And for whatever number of reasons, things just didn't work out, and I think there were a lot of factors that played into that."

Kyrie Irving Stopped Engaging With Cavs During Playoffs

Mar 11, 2018 5:49 PM

Kyrie Irving wouldn't engage in conversation with his Cleveland Cavaliers' teammates during practice between playoff rounds last season.

LeBron James: DeAndre Jordan Would Have Given Boost To Cavs

Mar 10, 2018 11:58 AM

DeAndre Jordan had 20 points and 23 rebounds in the Clippers' 116-102 win over the Cavaliers on Friday.

LeBron James was asked about the possible trade Cleveland could have made for Jordan at the deadline.

"I don't play fantasy basketball," James said. "I knew the conversations were going on from the outside. I seen it. If it would have happened it would have gave us a boost but it didn't happen so you move on."

Jordan can become a free agent in the offseason.

The Cavaliers instead made a pair of moves that netted Jordan Clarkson, Larry Nance Jr., Rodney Hood and George Hill.

Kawhi Leonard Speaks To Media, Wants To Remain With Spurs For Entire Career

Mar 7, 2018 12:48 PM

Kawhi Leonard spoke to the media for the first time in weeks after the Spurs' practice on Wednesday.

Leonard said he wants to remain with the Spurs for his entire career.

Leonard's status with the franchise has been uncertain as he deals with a lingering quad injury amid reports of a strain in his relationship with the front office.

"Everything was done as a group," Leonard said of him seeking second opinions. "I don't feel like nothing was friction. I talk to Pop (Gregg Popovich) every day. He knows what the progression were. He knew what I was doing the whole entire time, as well as the front office. We made a group decision, so it was me just going out and saying, 'I am going to go out and do this thing.' "

Leonard will be eligible for a supermax contract this offseason.

Leonard also told the media that he still intends to play this season.

"Soon. I don't have a set date right now," Leonard said. "I just have to keep doing what I'm doing. The progression that I am making has been great. I just have to keep doing what I'm doing."
